To those who in stalled the Energy Suspension shifter bushings...

I did that today.....But only the ones on the banjos. How the hell are you supposed to remove the bolt in the top left hand corner? The one next to the second lever? Ill pry everything apart if need be to install the other four bushings, but I need to know how to do the top left one.

Also, I installed the STS too, and cleaned the plastic shifter console (It was rank dirty!). Should I spray everything down with some white lithium?

Thanks for the help!

I asked the same question when I tried to install mine. The amount of helpful answers I got was about the same as you're getting here. At that point everyone was having a difficult time getting on the bushings for the cables. I still haven't tried to re do the bushings for the base of the shifter, but near as I can tell, you have to detach the cable that's blocking the front driver's side bushing, form the shifter itself.

Let me know what you come up with.

just did mine...
move the shifter into second which gets the plastic piece out of the way the most. use a deep-well socket and use the top part of the socket to push the caple back some so the socket lines up.

you can install the bushings without removoing the lever. After doing wat soonerfan said... u can lift up the base enough to remove the old bushing and squeeze in the polyurethane. good luck.

Read the last post here: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....6&page=2&pp=30
it helps...it supposedly makes the shift butter smooth, and makes it much easier to put in any gear..

Hey guys,

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead. I'm having some trouble getting the ES Banjo bushings in. Does anybody have any tips? Should I take the gold shifter cable out? Thanks for any help.

The gold shifter cable is one piece all the way to the transmission and requires lifting the vehicle. It's not worth to take out. You should be able to get the old ones out with a screwdriver and some force. The new ones are a pain, but I'd suggest using some ... lube or vaseline or something slippery to push the bushings in.

Thanks for your reply. I tried using some grease but that didn't work out. I'll try vaseline next. Also, on the shifter bracket, how is it possible to add the nut back on top? There is no more room left after I put the top and bottom bushings on. Am I supposed to take off the rubber washer that seems to be stuck on the top part of the screw? Thanks for your help guys.

I had the same problem last month. My solution was to use big washers, a bolt and nut... then just crank down on the nut and the bushing will slip right in.

After killing my fingers in frustration, I was pretty surprised how easy it was with this approach. Give it a try, and good luck.
