Power Antenna Motor

Ok, so on my new max it had a power antenna, but I couldnt get the thing to go up. It just stayed permanantly in the down position. So I took it off the car, removed the motor and wired it up to the cigarette lighter connections. The motor didnt spin at all. Does this mean I have a dead motor? If so where can I get a replacement? The antenna assembly is fine, right now its set up so i manually push it up and down.

edit: nevermind i thought he sold antenna motors not just window motors, maybe a junk yard would be a good bet if you tested it before you bought it.

if all else fails i think internetautomart may be your best bet to get a replacement. http://internetautomart.com

What if your mast is in the up position and is bent so you cant get it down all the way?

i think thats my problem. my antenna got stuck in the up position, and i cant force it down. i experienced this annoying buzzing sound everytime the antenna would come up.. maybe it has something to do with that.

if teeth of the mast are still where they should be inside the assembly you should be able to force it *slowly* down by hand. i've replaced mine 3 times and that is one solution, although not the most favorable one,to get it down. i recently got sick of mine not working and i replaced it with a stagnate one which works fine.

Nice ant... That functionality is one big issue. Another is reception signal intensity: I suppose best antennas (signal intensity, reception pattern) may be found via published comparison tests. Third is the grounding to chassis.

sweet mod 92graymax.. get good reception?

anyway, so what if you get that annoying loud buzzing sound when the antenna fully extends? what could be at fault? one thing I know that the antenna cannot be forced down, or at least it could in the past, but from forcing it over and over again, i believe i may have broken the mast

when i have the antenna in the up position reception is just as good as the stock antenna, for all intents and purposes i can't tell a quality difference in the signal, but that is far from scientific.

i never had a loud buzzing sound, i could however always hear the motor running, it sounds like something inside the internals of your motor assembly may be out of wack. it sounds like the tail that has all of the teeth on it may have popped out of position and everything is spinning around it but the teeth aren't catching. heres a pic of the inside.
all of the tail section that you see in this one should be inside the plastic cylinder it sounds like yours has popped out.

this shows the underside of the cylinder that the toothed band should be inside of.

yeah, this sucks. sounds like its gonna be a bit harder for me then i thought, to repair this problem. i also need the proper tool to get those annoying phillips screws out in that tight spot to begin with.

- good reception: tell ppl what Antenna type u have, where purchased
- get bigger pics, online, pls. Seems to be common problem.
- plastic cover? I would guess that nice hole and squirt of lubricAnt would help in most cases? My antenna works, will not open for pics - has metal box.

Mine mast is stuck in the up position. I suspect that the cord is broken. Is there any way to remove the broken piece Without taking the whole unit out of the car? Vacumn out the cord? If the cord is not remove a new mast will not work properly. Where the cheap and reliable place to get a replacement mast? I don't think the mast for a 96 Maxima can be made to fit the 93, but I'm correct?

its been a while since i took it out but i believe that all you need is a socket and screwdriver nothing special when you pull the carpet away you will see what you need unscrew.

its been a few years but i know i got the antenna from walmart and it was in the car audio section i don't have anymore specifics on the antenna than that, yeah i would put out biger pics but the digicam is dead for now.

you can take just the mast out by turning on the radio so that the motor turns to extend the antenna then just have someone keep pulling the antenna until it all comes out **however to do this you must remove the shiny metal piece that the antenna comes from**, i do it by putting a rag over the metal(prevent scratches) and then turning it using arc joint pliers. also the rubber section beneath the metal part doesn't need to come off to remove the mast. be sure to notice which way the teeth are facing when it comes out that is important when putting it back in. there it so much lube down there that you probably won't be able suck anything up, if it is broken you'll probably have to pull it apart to get the fragment out.

Where the cheap and reliable place to get a replacement mast?
mine have always come from the dealer, but i'm sure someone else out there sells them aswell. as for a 96 fitting a 93 i honestly have no idea.

is the antenna suppose to go up and down with all aftermarket headunits? because i replace the bose hu and speakers with aftermarket stuff, kenwood kdc -128 hu and alpine 6.5 fronts and kenwood 6x9 rears. the antenna worked fine with the bose setup but when i installed the aftermarket hu, the antenna won't go up at all. I hooked up the antenna wire to the hu but still doesnt work. Radio reception is a little static, not clear at all. Everything works except the antenna

the OE bose has 2 trigger wires, you may have tapped the wrong one
