Spkr wire to doors

I'm finally installing my stuff, but didn't realize that the I35 uses a harness for the wires to the door. How did you guys run wires to your speakers in your front doors?

Thanks,

dh

some people use the rubber grommet that houses a bunch of other wires going from the door to the car, but i just drilled holes.

Slick, were you the one that posted pics of how you did it? Did you use some type of spray to keep the holes from rusting? I might have to go buy some grommets and drill holes, since I will not be able to use the factory housing.

thanks,

dh

Unfortunately I can't use the factory grommets [at least not the one to the frame of hte car], since the infinity uses a harness, and not just wires. I can drill from the interior of the car, but my only large drill bit is dull. I may have to stick with the factory speakers until I can get some more time to do it right.

It's like a 72 pin plug, that BOLTS together. It was a pain just getting the bolt off to find out I couldn't use it!

Factory wiring is not too bad. Using them with 6.5" mids with no problems. No drilling in the door either. I've been that route before and it was not something I wanted to do again..

Are you using passive xovers? Where did you intercept the spkr wire to install the passives? I have no problem using the stock wire, but I don't want to run the xovers all the way back at the trunk, unless I have to.

Yeah, in the trunk. Shortest run for the mid connection. You could run them up front, but why run another set of wires?

I've got pics!

As others have said, Nissan used a jack on the front doors (on the car end of the hose). You cannot get through there as far as I can tell. You'll have to drill a hole on the car side. You can then poke a hole into the existing rubber connector on the door side. Make sure you use silicone on both ends to get a nice seal. The hose I used for my wire was just cheap plastic crap. Many things will work for this.

My Canton xovers might not fit in the kicks anyway, so maybe I'll give it a try. So you ran the spkr wires from your amp to the passives in the trunk, then ran the mid wires to the stock wire out of the bose amp? There isn't a seperate set of wires for the tweets, so did you just run a new set of wires for them from the xovers?

Bigdu, the pics won't open, but I think I yours are the ones I remember. If I run my own wires that's probably how I'll do it.

Thanks,

dh

Yeah, sorry about that. My school does a lot of server work over the summer I guess. I'm sure they'll be back up in a little while. They worked last night.

Yep, those are the pics I remember. That looks good enough, I'll give it a shot whenever I get another chance.

I ran one pair of wires from the tweeters to the trunk, then I cut into the factory Bose plug in the trunk and added wire from the factory harness to the Xovers in the trunk (2-4' length). The picture below shows where I put the Xovers behind the rear seats...

You don't have to drill

Go to mycardomain page link to pics for pics, sorry for the low resolution. There is an unused factory grommet that can only be seen when you have your door opened.
Just open your front doors all the way, walk around to the front of the door from the outside and peek into the gap between you open car door and the front quarter panel. You will see an unused factory grommet that is about as big around as a nickel. Just pull the grommet out, cut a hole in it for your speaker wire and run your cable through it. You will be able to get your speaker wire into the kickpanel from here.

You can run your speaker cable into you doors through either the top or bottom of the factory connecter on the door. You just poke a slit in the top or bottom of the factory wiring connector and run your speaker cable into the door. Trust me there is room. When you are done just put black plastic cable loom over you wires to look like stock.

Sorry, I've been away from home for a bit. I'm not sure there's an extra grommet in the I35 frame, but I'll look.

thanks,

dh

On my 01 maxima, there was a gromet on the body. I didn't even bother making a hole in the gromet as you can buy one from osh which perfectly fits inside the maxima hole and has a hole big enough for the plastic wire loom. As for the door, there is a black sticker on the door. I removed that and put the my loom through that. No need to make holes in the factory harness.
