Clear LED spoiler lamp mod....(**PICS**)

Well, I finally got around installing my clear LED spoiler lamp today. Let me tell you, this is not a easy mod as one might think. Removing the stock LED lamp was a pain in the a**! There's a middle tab that's wedged into the center pedestal. And, those screws are impossible to loosen (as far as mine went). So, I ended up breaking the stock LED. But, all is good, because I just ended up using the stock LED parts to mount the clear LED one (no extra drilling, except one small hole for routing the wiring for the clear LED). As you can see, I went a different route form the "how-to" in the sticky, and ended up cutting ALL the tabs from the clear LED and just epoxyed the stock LED mounting tabs onto it and mounted the lamp onto the car from there. To me, I think this is a cleaner install. Anyway, here are some pics, and let me know what you guys think.

Here is a pic of the broken stock LED:

Man, seal it up with silicone. I had to wait 10+hours for moisure to get out of mine(still not out but I got tired of waiting) and then I resealed it w/ silicone.

Oh, let me clarify the part about the epoxy. It seems I confused some people. I didn't open up the clear LED or modify it whatsover, other than cutting all the tabs off. To mount it, I just removed the red lens off the stock LED and used its black, plastic frame to mount the clear LED in the same bolt location on the spoiler. I didn't need the whole frame, though, just the part with the tabs (for mounting purposes). Here, is where I epoxyed THIS black, plastic frame piece onto the rear of the clear LED. If you look close enough at the first photo, you can see some black color from the plastic piece. But, anyway, thanks for all the compliments!

Looks good! I see that you didn't have trouble removing yours. The bolts on my center pedestal did not budge, so I said f*** it, and just broke it off. It's weird, that center mounting tab on the stock LED is not even used, just wedged into the pedestal.

the problem was the right tool. i have a screwdriver that fits in spots like that. i put it in, and just twisted with all my might.

i'm actually taking it apart this weekend as i'm taking my spoiler off, so i'll be re-sealing it.

before you ask, i'm sound-deadening the spoiler, this is why i'm taking it off.

Yeah, I would try to avoid opening it up because it's quite hard putting it back together. What people fail to understand is that this lens is made out of acrylic. When acylic is pieced together, a special type of "bonding glue" is used for acylic purposes only. What this glue does is "melt" the acrylic together giving it the most tightest bond. If you try to use silicone only, it only changes the shape of squareness and gives it more flexibility of a looser seal (for example, allowing moisture to get in). I know this, because I work in an environment where we deal with plenty of acrylic and also assembling pieces together for displays.

Here is the only downfall of the clear brake light. I have had mine on for a while, and it isnt nearly as bright as the stock one. At night, it is not a problem, but in the day time, especially with the sun to your back, it isnt bright enuf and is is kind of unsafe IMO. But it does look sick on lighter colored cars
