Opened up the V2 blower

Last night I had the chance to open up the blower to take a look inside. I was expecting to see minute metal shavings from the bearings or gears mixed in with the oil but that wasn't the case at all! The bearings spun with no detectable problems so I'm not sending it to Vortech this time. I'll remount the blower the next time I have a free weekend available.

Here's some pics I took during the process:

Glad everything is ok and I know you are happy but why did you think something was wrong in the first place?

In my other posts I mentioned about the onset of the dreaded marbles-in-a-can noise again. The last time I had that problem was in Nov.,2002 and had Vortech do a minor rebuild. I saw an exploded view pic that Stephen Max posted of the blower and so I took it upon myself to inspect the inside first before shipping. Now that I've seen the inside I've decided not to send it.
I now believe that the unusual noise was the loosening of the bolt that secures the 3.125" pulley to the spindle. The pulley was so loose I could move it by hand and I remember putting in blue locktite on the threads as well. When visually inspecting it it looked fine but I saw some scratches on the side of the engine block where the bolt had touched. Now I have to not just visually inspect it now and then but also check to see if the pulley is not loose.

Jeez...AWESOME pics.

Now I know why they "only" charge $300 for a rebuild. I bet people could easily find those two bearings and replace them themselves.

I'd have them cryotreated to extend life, if you could find replacements.

Looks like a healthy V2. I guess they're more reliable than we thought.

Icy, I have a hard time thinking of a local place to get bearings that are exactly that size. You have some near you? I know everyone keeps saying tranny shops have any bearing you want. I guess I haven't looked into it really because mine was just rebuilt.

I was ASSuming you could take them to a parts shop that has tons of bearings and they could find you a duplicate or tell you who made them.

I have a local shop that I've dealt with for weird bearings and they seem to just be able to look at them and know exactly who makes them and what model number you need.

I doubt Vortech has them custom made, so somebody makes them. Any part numbers or brand stamps you can see on them?

For a while I was wondering if any oil was coming into the blower at all when I disconnect the oil feed line. Now I know thats not the case. Note the oil exit hole location.

In the pics I do see some numbers etched on the bearings but I didn't write them down. I do see the word "Vortech" etched on the smaller bearing so I bet that's their own internal part number etched.

I found only one local bearings shop in the yellow pages but since the V2 looks healthy I haven't gone down that path.

I see Vortech and Made in the USA on that smaller bearing, but can't read the part number...can you get that?

I'd have to take the blower apart again to get that. There's two funny shaped metal washers for each of the bearings and I had a bit of problem getting the smaller one in because it kept dropping out. Besides, Vortech won't sell the bearings separately but superchargersonline.com does sell a rebuild kit for the V2 s-trim.

Yeah, that's just the rebuild kit only! They're asking $550 for the rebuild service including shipping! Definitely "cheaper" to send to Vortech.

get ceramic bearings instead. in theory it shouldn't ever wear out if the oil going in is nice and clean.
