Those with or had 8" in rear deck, help me out w/ install

Those of you who have (or had) the 8" subwoofer in the rear deck, help me out. I have an 01 GXE (motto: some assembly required), and the sub hole is there in the metal of the rear deck, but judging from pics I've seen, it looks like I will need a metal plate of some sort to install an 8" woofer back there. I called up Dave B and he said the plate and a metal ring all come as a package with the Bose woofer (which I will not be buying). Can anyone post a pic of just the metal plate and/or attachment hardware, or tell me how you attached yours if you put an aftermarket 8" in the back deck? Thanks for the help!

You could probably make something out of MDF and mount the sub to that.

instil, yeah, pics would be great if you have them. I'm coming down from a 12" in the rear to a less-damaging 8" setup (and upgrading to good 6x9 and front doors too). It will be a whole new system, but only if I can figure out what the plate and/or other attachment device in the back deck looks like in the Bose setup. Long story short, pics would help a lot....! The more pics the better, especially of the thickness of the plate and where the screw holes are if I am going to have even a small chance of making something out of MDF....[B]

Would love to pull this off

I'm looking to do similar. My Bose 6.5 Woofer has long since died a long time ago, and I'm going from a trunk hugger (Huge) setup to a more stealthy rig. I'm running 3, JL 8w0, trying to find places to stick em in the trunk. One place would be nice, assuming I can secure the rear tray a bit better to avoid rattles would be in the existing slot where the current 6.5 is. I've taken the rear try apart before but didnt get pictures of anything (put in insulation to stop rattling when the 6.5 actually worked). Anyway I've got plenty of the MDF wood and I'd love to make a custom ported box that'll fit in there. Its something like 12 inches wide and 8 inches long where the "Panel" seems to be (probably longer by an inch or so because I measured from inside my trunk.

Any advice? Or is there simply no way to avoid that rear tray rattling?

I'm thinking about replacing the factory 6.5 woofer with a JL 6W0

kpr10is, I already had holes cut in the back deck for the 6x9's when I did the first iteration of my system, so I might as well use them. Justin, when I come up with a solution (hopefully I'll have it all in next weekend) I'll let you know/post pics and write-up. PM me if I don't have something up by the end of next weekend or so.

Good ideas. I will be sound proofing my max in the next two weeks. I didn't even think about the rear deck.

Has anyone put in a aftermarket sub in the rear deck to replace the Bose? Does it even work?

from what i hear, its a big pain to swap out anything bose unless you replace the whole thing (HU,speakers, sub, amp) and ive read people who have switched out just the amp,or headunit, whatever, and bought an adapter to keep the rest of the bose setup, and it didnt sound right afterwards. If you find out anything, lemme know...id swap out my sub

i personally cant say what was wrong with it...thats what ive read about SOME peoples experiences. I do remember a few saying the bass didnt hit right after installing a new sub to the bose setup, and wishing they just replaced the system as a whole from the beginning, rather than trying to alter it
