white smoke sounds like head gasket.

look at the oil on the dipstick, and check the coolant level. Let us know what you see.

Smell/check for coolant on your dipstick. Pray it's not your head gasket.

When engines start up cold there is condensation that exits out the exhaust and sometimes it appears as white smoke. Ever notice that some cars spill out water from there exhaust pipe. That's why mufflers rust out so fast. Unless you motor is trashed you should be fine. I'd do some basic checks as noted and go from there.

pray it isn't, but even so... head gasket isn't IMPOSSIBLE to do, and is much better than the alternative of a cracked head.

water is a natural by product of combustion-- if the car is warmed up and blwing white smoke--white smoke is an indication of water in the combustion chamber--blue smoke is burning oil, and black means running to rich unburnt fuel

I would drain your oil and check for any sign of coolant.

I wouldn't worry about it if it only happens when it's cold out.

White "Steam" and water dripping out, a problem???

I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE with 28K Miles. Every time I start it up I get white semi-clear steam comming out of the muffler along with water dripping out. Due to the fact that I purchased the car recently, I still do not have auto insurance on it and since i'm in California, I can't drive it. So every day, I start it up to warm it up and to keep the battery from draining. When I put it in reverse and drive out water just spills out of the muffler and when I put it in park and it is idling the water is still dripping and a puddle forms but the steam disappears after the engine drops down below 800rpm. I don't know if that is normal. I'm not a pro with cars as you can tell. Maybe it's due to the fact that I don't drive it? Or maybe it's just condensation that collects in the muffler and never gets out, just drips. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I'm kind of worried. Anyone else have this ? Please get back to me before I lose my mind.Thanx
