Trans shifts hard dealer says Valve Body
As the title says, my transmission was shifting very hard out of first gear. The car has just over 50,300 miles and the dealer is saying it is the valve body. He is ordering parts and is doing it under the 5yr/60K warranty. I guess my question is...what part is the valve body and how does this fix the problem. By replacing it and having the problem previously is their harm done to the transmission. My 5 year is up the beginning of next month. Thanks.

If the valve body (solenoid pack) is not replaced soon when bad it "does" create damage to the transmission. Nissan has a TSB that says if the valve body is the issue you must first check the transmission fluid condition. If it smells burned and looks black than you must replace the transmission assembly. If it is normal and does not smell burned than all that is needed is the valve body.
Say what does the Valve body do specifically and how much does it cost? Because I dunno if this is the same.. When I shift Park to Drive or Reverse, I hear a squeek noise. and then goes away, and it always happens. I dunno why.

you wouldn't get a squeak noise from the valve body. the transmission valve body (solenoid pack) controls fluid pressure when shifting. Once the solenoids go back the pressure changing, hence why you get shift flaring and transmission hesitation. i forgot the exact cost of the valve body, but parts and labor should be up there. have a tech hear this squeak noise your talking about. it could be something very simple. good luck
