I ripped apart my old (now my brother's) 91 se today to take out all my monster cables which were hooking my subwoofers and amp up to my head unit. i did this because i am going to reinstall the subs and amp in my new max.
i was able to get all of the cables out pretty easily (except for the one that plugged into the back of the headunit which was a PITA) and now my only problem is i can't get the power cord out. it is sealed in the spot where it passes through the firewall into the engine bay and i was wondering if i should try to rip it out or just cut it short on either end and by a new cable.

 

no way to pull it out? what is it sealed with?

 

im not sure, that was one thing I did not do myself but rather had it done professionally. Also, the cable appears to penetrate through the firewall very close to the steering column. At least it seems that way from the inside of the car...

 

just take a look around the area and see what's holding it in. it's probably passed through a gromet of some sort and maybe sealed with some silicon.

 

yeah im pretty sure its silicone holding it in there. how do you get it "unsealed" from the silicone? do you just force it out, cut the silicone molding, heat it up...?

 

i'd take a razor blade and slowly cut the silicon out to the point you can pull the cable out. but if you do, be careful to not cut into the insulation of the wire.
