New knock sensor! but still has KS code.
I installed a brand new knock sensor? It felt great for a little bit like a week. Then the today it wasnt running great. I checked the code and it came up as the knock sensor. Could it be the harness? and how would i check it, if i pulled it back out?
1. did you check the harness when you replaced the old KS
2. did you clean the grounds when you replaced the KS (behind the fuel rail near the plenum)
3. did you clean the KS harness connectors when you replaced the KS

ok heres the deal if you had no check engine light but a computer stored ghost code for the knock sensor then you must replace you KS. If your CEL is illuminated for the knock sensor it is either unhooked or another component is triggering the KS most notably the air inlet temperature sensor my moms VQ infiniti had a issue just like this.
The check engine came on for the knock sensor and it was a faulty air inlet temperatire sensor telling the MAF the temperature outside was 5 billion degrees and the computer tried to adjust to this and went nutty.
I am assuming you reset the computer after you put in your KS...keep us updated

im pretty sure i have a faulty knock sensor , but not all the time, im have inconsistant performance (remember im representin the 3ed gen (92 VE )) , how can i check the grounds? im kinda a newbie with this diagnostic stuff, ps. my check engien light isnt on
first i'd say try resseting the ECU and then see if you still have the code.
Personally i just installed a new KS a few days ago and i still have a CEL but i didn't check to see what the code was... my car is currently in a shop getting all sorts of brake stuff done.
Others have reported having O2 sensor issues that made the ECU give a faulty KS code. (i think im one of those people, but i won't know till i get my car back)
so basically
1. reset ECU
2. check for O2 sensor codes
if the above doesn't work then i suppose you may be right about getting the wrong TQ on the bolt.
the only writeup i recall is http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507 which says 15-20 feet per pound.
- good luck

my girl's max had the exact same problem, she took it back to the mechanic (i woulda done it myself, but it was under waruntee, she just bought the car, so free install), and he said the reason the ks code keeps coming up is because it basically thinks its a bad knock sensor, but in reality one of her O2 sensors was dead, and kept triggering it... he replaced the faulty one and no more CEL light
