iunno if this has been discussed, but i dont ever remember it being discussed. but is the ebay version as good as the real one? i heard that the ebay HIDs are made of cheaper stuff, but does it really affect the quality? anyone have experience with these products or know anything about it? $600 is a good price and am considering buying a set.

I think he might be asking about the 02-03 headlights, from what i have seen the housings are identicle to OEM. And the hella/phillips gen 3 ballasts they come w/ are high quality and OEM in a lot of cars so you cant go wrong w/ those.

If you are going to spent the money and the look of the 02-03 headlights is what you are after, more so than lighting quality ( light output, not housing construction) then that is the way to go.
But if high quality lighting is what is more important to you.....reflector HIds arent that great, you should spend a few more bucks and go the retrofit route.

dr. roy is right about what im talking about. those "direct replacement" 02-03 HIDs look really appealing and want to buy it, but yeah, i didnt know if it was good quality or not. and retrofiting projectors... how much more bucks are we talkin? and how much more money? im assuming u meen projectors for the 2k housing? also, when you mean quality of construction, what do you mean? is the housing construction of the ebay 2k2HIDs less quality? lol, you know what i mean.

 

the 02-03 HIDs from ebay are fine, similar light output and housing construction when compared to OEM 02-03 lights bought from the dealer -exept they use different but equaly good ballast.

the typical retrofits i do is a put HID projector from another car (i.e bmw, audi, acura) into the ebay dual halo projector lights. while i have the lights open i also add brighter LEDs to the halo's and clear lenses in the park/turn signals.
cost and material for this:
$200..........Labor for projector retro - LED upgrade - clear park/turn lenses
$240......... ebay projector headlights
$160......... E46 or valeo H7 projectors & bezels(i have others as well, these are about middle of the road price wise)
$250..........ballasts and D2S HID capsules

about $850 total, give or take depending on what you want, + return shipping

hey, i like what you did, but its not worth the money for me. but do i need anything else to install the HIDs? do i need any special wiring or something?

 

You can read up at http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=21 and learn all there is about doing this. Dr. Roy is doing mine because of my fear of doing it wrong. But what you "need" is the headlamp (he now has done a bixenon in a 2000-2001 in addition to Ebay), a projector (read @ hidplanet about different projectors code named: E46, E55, TSX, S2000, etc), a ballast to ignite the bulb, and the bulb. You can get the last two @ hidplanet for a decent price. Those are the basics. On top of that, add a shroud and a harness to run off the battery direct instead of the stock wiring.
