exhaust and Y pipe QUESTIONS PLZ

i just installed my warpspeed y pipe, i took forever to do it but i did it. but every time i hit a bump i hear my exhuast pipes bump, ie like it shakes and its pretty : ...i was just curious 2 see if any1 else had this problem when they installed their y pipe.

is this normal? or did i miss something?

i double checked all the bolts everything is fine, the only thing that i can acutally move with my hands is teh b pipe, the pipe right after the cat.

here are the pics.

any help would be kind suggestions comments.

The black rubber mounts need to be replaced. They are probably warn out and arent doing their job. Go to the local part store and buy some OEM replacements.

Never had that problem with my warpspeed or my GReddy SP2... get under the car and wiggle the exhaust to find out where it's hitting something.

when i first got the y pipe installed i had the same noise issue. when u start hard the pipe jumps up and hits right under the armrest. the noise should go away. mine did after about a week or two. if it dont after 3 get it looked at..

the only things that i can move is just the b pipe...or the should i say the pipe that is right after the cat. i don't konw why there is this problem b/c i would never do that.

You have to bend the heat shield/cat bracket tabs to a position where they will not make contact with the car. I bent mine in and that took care of the rattling/hitting noise from under my shifter.

i did what you said it looks like its not going to hit anymore, but my concern is that the rubber modlings...the things that hold the ypipe cat and exhaust pipes... will that snap? and will i be screwed when it does?...b/c thats the only thing holding my exhaust....

Dont take the chance man just replace thouse mounts, you dont wonna drag your cat, also if they break you may damage the flex section, and youll need a new y-pipe

you wont need a new ypipe, you can just have the flex section replaced also.

I did this about a year and a half ago with no issues thus far. If you are worried, just put in some new ones as advised earlier.

My brother just installed a complete Cattman exhaust system on his max and had the same problem. He replaced the mounts and no more bump.

Same here but I went one step further and bought the Nismo exhaust hangers that are solid rubber. Now, there is virtually no movement in my exhaust. I also had to replace the U shaped hanger that bolts up in between the y-pipe and cat because it was all rusted out and cracked. There was no banging with the stock exhaust but with the cattman catback it was banging badly and I could not center the exhaust tip at the bumper.

Here's a link to the Nismo ones if anyone it interested:
