No joke, last night my brother took my car and while coming home ran over a skunk and now my car stinks. I think i was generalized in the driver side of the car but the vents push the smell in. Any general ideas of how to get rid of the smell? I've checked and there is like no dead skunk corps sitting anywhere...any hints?

thanks

If you run over a cat or something, the skunk smell will go away....Its a stronger smell, hehe.

Or he can just give his car a tomato soup bath!

I have done the same

The smell will go away but it will take a good long while. It is best for you to get some car freshener spray and douse the interior. That gives it a better smell but it won't cover it up. I would also reccomend Fabreeze. Open up those windows and doors on a sunny afternoon and let the fresh air get in there.

Back when I hit my skunk we didn't have this Fabreeze stuff. We had to sit there with our car soaked in car freshener spray and smell like skunks everywhere we went. For years the smell would linger on us and we like it, WE LOVED IT!

Seriously though that would be the best ways to get the smell out.

Talk to a detail shop? They should have some ideas.

Soak your car in tomato juice! GRIN

But seriously, time is the best cure for skunk. I've used a cup of coffee grounds in the cup holder to mask the smell while the skunk wears off. Someone once also told me coffee grounds absorb smell--I don't know though.

i ran over a skunk in my infiniti and it smelled bad! First thing i did was take it to a touchless car wash (i had to try to get rid of the smell asap) and chose the option that included washing the underside of the car. when i realized the smell wasn't going away, i bought one of those tree air fresheners (the one's in ny cabs) and to my surprise it soaked up all the smell within a few days. plus the smell of the air freshner doesn't last too long either, so now the car is back to smelling normal. try it, it worked and was cheap. goodluck!

The smell will never go away. You might get used to it, but it won't go away.

i tried this...wash your car several times...leave it outside windows open trunk open, everything open, then let it air out. Then buy some air deoderizer, then turn the engine on turn on the heat on high and let it run, then spray the deoderizer in the vents in front of the windshield...it worked for me...hope it'll work for you...

Same thing happened to me last summer too.

Driving, skunk on road, hit my exhaust as I drove over it, looked in rear view mirror & see skunk running off ... happy skunk made it.

Few seconds later, smell skunk!!! ARGHHHHHHHHH!!! For 3 weeks, I could smell it. Several car washes, and open window drives later, all gone

Ironically, next day I drove by the same road, and I saw the same skunk dead ... when it ran off, it ran to the opposite traffic lane and got hit by a car. Should've never sprayed my Max

Skunk smell

This trick worked several times for my hunting dog, why not a car? Get her wet, then use a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, small box of backing soda, several good squirts of dish soap, stir it up, till mixture has thin paste consistancy and wash her several times. Annie got sprayed last year while hunting pheasants in South Dakota. I did the above trick and I was unable to smell it 2 hours later on the ride home. I my past experience tomato juice doesn't work very well. I have been sprayed several times while hunting.

step 1 - get a big a$$ bottle of fabreeze from costco and go apes*** on the inside of you car.
step 2 - open a box of arm and hammer baking soda in the car...it absorbs odor. That's why they tell you to put it in your fridge to keep it from smelling funky.
step 3 - coffee grounds and air fresherner...whatever you want to use to cover up the small for a while.
optional - after you can't smell it anymore, you may want to get the inside of your car shampooed (seats and all) just to make sure the smell is gone

When it happened in my intrepid I went to a touchless wash at first and did the undercarridge thing. It did not work so I went to a regular self cleaning one and used the higer power wash hose and brush and got right underneath (hold your breath) but it seemed to work. Was everything you can see because it probably spread around. After that I went back through a touchless wash to respray it. When I would go home I would spray generally under there with a hose. I got rid of it though in like a day. Just keep washing it.

i would agree. try to get a few products that absorb odors, not air fresheners, and combine em. thats prolly the best way to go.
