Just wondering......I have a 2002 SE with a Non-Bose AM/FM/TAPE/CD player. CD player is not working I want to know if I can also use a Bose headunit with the 6-disc cd changer. Are the electrical plugs the same, and will it work. It's just hard finding a stock replacement for my non-bose unit, and I thought if I could include the Bose units in my search it might increase my options. Thanks,

i beleive the bose headuint uses a propriatary amp to power it's speakers, plus propriatary crossovers for each speaker as well. i think you would acheive better sound quality if you went with an aftermarket hu that plays mp3s. one mp3 cd is about 8-10 regular cds.

Yeah, I just want to keep the stock look and keep the functionality of the controls on the steering wheel. As another question, the FM reception sucks on my current stereo. The Pioneer that I have mounted in my 91 SE gets better reception. Where is the antenna on an 02, is it in the rear glass? If so where does it connect? I purchased the vehicle from a dealer that had to do some bodywork on it, they repainted the roof and trunk lid, and put in new Nissan glass in the back window. Is it possible that they did not hook up the FM antenna correctly?

My Bose unit recently failed on me for the second time (CD left side audio cutout). I replaced my Bose with a Panasonic, and I used the PAC SWI-X adapter to keep my steering wheel audio controls. It works flawlessly, and I grounded the thin brown/white wire so my trip computer works too. I will post pictures soon.

As for the antenna, it is in the rear windshield. There is a cheap adapter that allows you to use it with aftermarket head unit. I've got it hooked up to my Panasonic, and FM/AM reception is great.

Since you don't have the Bose system with the Bose amp (you probably have no amp at all), you might not need to do this step. The Bose system uses a proprietary amp and speakers, so I had to use an OEM amplifier integration adapter from Scosche to get my aftermarket head unit to work with the stock Bose speakers and amp. It allows you to adjust the gain on LF, RF, LR, and RR independently.

It took me all of ten minutes to adjust all of the adapters properly, and now my Panasonic head unit works with my stock amp, speakers, antenna, and steering wheel audio controls.

Cool. Definately post some pics when you can, I would like to see some pics of aftermarket stereos and how the install kits match up with my interior. I spliced a wire from the plug I had on the drivers side, to the metal piece attached to the passenger side, but FM reception still sucks. If I cannot find a good deal on a non-bose unit, aftermarket is definately now an option if you can show me how to hookup the steering wheel controls......

 

yo i have a bose setup and its a pain to replace anything. For you,the sjys the limit. I think you should get a nice aftermarket HU, and i think you'll be glad you did. Then in the future you can add a sub,amp....change the speakers. I need to do it all at once,it sucks

Shops that tell you that it's necessary to replace everything at once are lying to you. It's true that the Bose system amp and speakers are proprietary, but with a couple of easy adapters, you can make an aftermarket head unit work with the Bose amp and speakers. Read my post above.

 

For every post on this site, theres another saying the exact opposite thing. I know you can cop a PAC adapter, but then ive read people saying the bass sounds messed up,the sound just isnt what it should be,etc.
By the time i save up $1200-1500 for a used eclipse avn, the extra money needed for new components and a sub will seem like pocket change.
