replacing evap canister
the dealer told me it would cost 600 bucks to replace and the part is only 140 to 180 so of course i want to do it myself. my question is where is it and is there any welding or reprograming to be done if i change it myself. how long can i drive with this part being bad and what problems will it cause long term?

The EVAP canister should be behind the driver's side rear wheel well, look for a black plastic box with hoses coming out of it. You'll need a socket wrench and a pair of pliers! Before you toss the old box, take it out, hold it vertically and see if water or charcoal pieces come out of the ports. If water comes out then you can drain it, let it dry and reinstall. Good idea to drain the water separator too. If you see black chunks or powders coming out then it's time to get a new canister. You don't want to drive around with a damaged canister ATTACHED as those charcoal pieces will get into the hoses. Just detach the hoses from the canister and plug them tight.
Did you get hit behind the rear wheel or something? EVAP canister usually outlasts your car (or warranty!)
Replacement time: 5-20mins

bought car used but carfax report was clean. and the dealer said it wasnt covered under warranty. i bought the gold thinking i would be covered but i guess not. i went to my local autozone and they told me that they were no longer aloud to reset the light. i have done the gas cap thing and driven and refilled the tank a few times and nothing has happened to the light.
