My next door neighbor is talking much crap about how he can "choke my Max on heel dust" with his 1987 535i Bimmer. He has an older Bimmer and it is in mint condition as he maintains it meticulously. I've ridden with him in the car and I must admit that it's tight and fast. The Bimmer is an auto and my Max is an auto. Can my Max take out this old Bimmer or should I leave him alone ?

I believe that the old 535i had about 250 HP and 250 lb-ft of torque. The car weighed about 3450 lbs. I would say hes got you going purely by the numbers.

Off the line, he's probably got you, but a lot BMWs are limited surprisingly low. If you can find a stretch where you can get up to speed, or get a good rolling start, you can probably walk him if you keep on it long enough.

I use to work at a used car dealership and testdrove all kinds of cars. Those old 535s are f$*&@ slow!!!

i don't think the 535i were that fast. the 5xxe series with the 'eta' engines were even slower. the old m5 would be close. he might have some mods in the 'ol beemer, so you might wanna take a look under the hood first

i actually feel that bmw's kinda soft with the initial throttle tip-in... but pull harder than they feel like they're pulling.

the 3.5 liter I6 BMW used in the mid 80's to early 90's made 208 HP. They're quick I know someone with an 86 5spd 535i, quick, but the maxima would take it.

My bad, the 3.5 liter M5 made 256 HP, the 1987 3.4L 535 only made 182. Damn BMW, they keep misnaming their models!!

I know that a '87 M5 could do a little over 7 seconds 0-60mph. 535i I assume is much slower. Maybe 8sec 0-60.
