Berk Technology Intake owners, come on down!

So I plan on installing my Berk intake tonight or tomorrow on my 2k2, anyone have tips, tricks, or things to look out for during the install? Any problems?? Thanks!

Great choose!! If you got the K&N air filter, don't put oil on it. It comes pre-oiled. I messed up my air flow meter like that.

It will be easy... the hardest part is stretching the couplers over the throttle body and over the MAF housing.... apart from that, it shouldn't be too hard.

Some people worry about too much vibration around the MAF and housing, which apparently contributes to MAF failure, so ya could get some rubber washers and stick em around the intake bracket to reduce some vibration from the chassis of the car.

Thanks for the idea puppet... I'm not quite sure what you mean but I'll figure it out once I have it all apart. About how long does it take to install?

About 10mins to get pretty much the stock items off and about another 10 mins to get everything from throttle body to Maf housing... and lastly about 2 hours to get the DAMN coupler over the MAF adapter...I'm talking about using the microwave to soften the coupler, hair dryer to keep it hot while installing and a timely filing job on the edges.. but it was worth for the great, deep growl..

Tips:

Put some white lube on the adapter, microwave the coupler and if needed take a file to the edge of the adapter

Lastly, clean out the inside of the adapter/coupler part before installing.. wipe it down with a dry cloth.. our MAFS are weak...

My install was for a 2k..hopefully your 2k2 will be easier

I know that the intake issue is a big thing here.... I just wanted a little better sound, so from what ive heard frankencar and berk have WAI for best sound and a little better breathing. Any CAI that will improve both that you can recommend? Or are the improvements so minimal I should just stick with WAI

While we're on the topic, if I take the rest of the stock airbox off, what do I do with the sensor on it?

Ok so I'm looking for an install write up. I think I'll be ok doing this, but a write up with pics wouldn't hurt. I found one for the Injen CAI in the stickies, and I can use the beginning of that, but if anyone knows of a full write up for the Berk let me know!

Some people have said to NOT install the little baby (breather) filter as it creates havoc with the 5th gens IAC (idle air control)?

do the idle air volume learning procedure, in the stickies, if your rpms are not close to 650. for injen owners, you can use a small amount of vaseline or some sort of thick grease to get the rubber couplings onto the metal parts. i fought with my (now replaced) injen intake for 10 minutes, and my dad gave me this idea. worked like a charm with a small amount of grease.

Djsoniq,
I left that part there because I would hope air would go to the intake that way. I took it off originally and left the sensor behind the battery but my friend convinced me to put it back just so that the air could get to the intake. I have no clue or what would make any sense in that matter but I left it there. Yeah, looks stupid but its ok.

Ok so I got the intake installed this morning. I had to go out and get 4 stainless steel bolts and nuts to connect the MAF to the adapter as the used intake I bought didn't have them (no big deal, stainless is better anyways). Got everything hooked up. Now here is a question. See Andrew's picture above? He has the large vac line and two smaller ones. I only had the one big vac line, but ports for the other two, so I looped a small piece of rubber line to keep the vac in check. Are there vac lines in an 02 that I'm just missing??
Also I gotta say the thing sounds mean as hell when you floor it. There is a slight hiss though, kinda like a turbo. Is that normal? I checked all the connections and they're all solid, and if there was any kind of leak I'm sure the SES light would come on right?
Anyways I love the way it looks and sounds, def worth the money. I'm working on getting pics up for you guys, but PhotoBucket is driving me nuts today...

Painted engine cover? Doesn't the stock one look like that though? And congrats on the intake, still waiting to order mine.

The engine color is painted sunlit sand to match his body color I believe, stock color is grey.

You should have turned the midpipe around. The way you have it, the breather tube will come into contact with the engine cover. Flip it around so the side with the less material is closer to the MAF tube.

It was setup like that when I got it, used, but it's fine. I've checked all the clearances...

And yes the engine cover is painted to match the body, I realized later that its hard to tell in this pic.
