Broken wheel-stud.

Did anyone break their wheel studs before?
One of mine just broke for no apparent reason (torque wrench was used so it could not be over-torqued).
Does anybody know how much will it cost to fix (part and labor)?

Thanks

yes one of mine broke, i went to NAPA, paid around $5 for a new lug and nut.
you can fix it yourself if you have airtools, or with a alot of muscle
it needs to get pressed in fully, thats about all there is to it.

HHAHAAA....Reason i asked is becuase iv had about 7 studs replaced. 3 were broken by NTB and 4 by direct tire. Process takes like 2 min if u have a lift and air tools. It requires taking apart everything...Taking caliper off, rotor off and then unscrewing it off..Airtool is mandatory. Studs cost like 1 bucks but its a PITA to put in. Good luck.

HEHE, Me and my bro once broke 5 of them on my old accord, both front sides, 3 from one side 2 from the other... I were under the impression that wheel nuts needed to be tightened with brutal force to ensure the wheels wont come off when driving. (I know pretty stupid, but hey were were new to cars back then)

Don't need air tools, Just get a big c-clamp, and push it out. Those shmucks at tire places use power tools, and don't really pay attention if the thread goes on correct.

Dude you ask anyone that knows me I carry extras with me all the time cause for some reason me and lug nuts just dont get along. But yeah you can totally do it your self.

See what I mean this happened on the side of 95, and yes all five broke at the same time.

About air tools is 100%right. Never let those fruit loops put your wheel on...MAKE SURE they tighten them with their hands first because if they don’t they have a high chance of F--ucking up your studs by cross threading them. You, the customer, will not notice until you will have to take the wheel off and then you will know. By that time it will be too late to take it back and you will be stuck either doing it yourself or paying 65/hr labor putting new ones in and we all know that it takes an hour per stud(direct tire tried to charge me 100 bucks to change 3 studs they broke)...I started to laugh and told the service manager to get a life...In the end they actually saved me mad loot...they gave me road force balancing on all 4 tires for free and they balanced by bent wheels and tires with hot spots(pretty hard to do). Long story short, don’t let those clowns tighten your lugs without u watching and reminding to hand torque them in the beginning.

Mine never broke, but two were stripped and I needed to replace them. I bought 5 new wheels studs, nuts and replaced them all.
