Tranny Fluid Change = BIG difference

finally grew enough ***** to do this on my own. Very easy job, common tools needed, I would say a 30 minute job for a newb if all parts are together and ready to be used. Longest part is refilling the tranny.

I have an 01 max 5 speed which is shy of 67k miles and the fluid was DARK BROWN, i mean on some sewage sh*t. I changed the fluid with the recommended Redline ATF 90 blah blah blah and i can feel the change. Shifting is a lot smoother, goes into gears a lot easier and the feel is so much better. This is one of those mods that are not only recommended for maintenance but driving comfort as well.

Special thanks to Kevlo for AIM help

He did the right thing. Majority of manual cars these days still use ATF fluid. Definatly a good idea to flush it every 60K miles. Makes a huge difference and helps keep the tranny in good shape.

I've run MT90 for over 120k miles in a different car. Good stuff but it's not as slick as other fluids, that's why it improves shifts. It makes the synchros slow down faster and so the trans shifts better.

The down side is that it's not so great for bearings and gears.

I let the drain interval go a bit too long once and I started to hear the bearings howl. Once I changed the oil they quieted back down. There was also a lot of metal in the fluid when I drained it.

Just make sure you shorten your drain interval with the Redline MT90, it doesn't hold up as well as stock fluid IMHO.

Shouldn't tranny fluid be changed every 30k?

I just changed my Auto fluid in my 03 with M1 Synthetic @ 36,000 miles. I will def. change my fluid every 30k. I did the flush and pan drop. The fluid seemed fine, but was noticable darker than the new stuff (almost black when compared in a cear jug). The magnets in the pan were full of metal shavings (they looked 2-3 times their real thickness). I didn't expect to see so many shavings. I also cleaned the screen (there were some metal shavings on the screen; not bad, but a few) Also there was some sludgey residue with very, very small metal flakes in it on the bottom of the pan. I used some brake parts cleaner to clean everything. I haven't noticed any improvements in shifts, but I had my seloniods replaced under warranty a few days after the flush and the shifts changed with that. I expect to notice a differnce when the weather gets colder.
