Have You Guys Heard Of This?

well yesterday on the way home from work with my stock intake inplace my maf blew and don't you know i'm 100 miles over warranty. so i drive the car to the dealer and they said they would look at it today. well i got the call and they confirmed the maf had failed so i asked how and they said that my aftermarket air filter contaminated the maf. there are contaminated fibers in all aftermarket air filters which cause the mafs to fail. has anyone else got this line of bull? doesn't make any sense to me so i called a different dealer and asked them they also said this could happen but it is because the after market filters are cheap and don't fit correctly and let contaminates by. but my k&n filter is the same exact size as the nissan one and fits the same. i just think nissan is covering their own butts so they don't have to fix their crappy products. oh and after some arguing they ended up warranting the new maf i just have to pay 22 bucks for a nissan air filter...... sorry for the long post

The only way that your air filter could contaminate your MAF is from the oil on the filter. However, I have had a Stillen pop charger and a K&N on my 2kSE for several years and no problems with my MAF. I switch back and forth from the K&N panel filter to the Stillen intake and K&N cone.

Looks like Nissan got the best of both worlds. In addition to making money on the warranty item, they also got money from the sale of a Nissan panel filter. Collecting on the front side and the back side, those bastards!

Some friendly advice: Whoring up someone else's thread with an unrelated question is not likely to get you an answer, and is likely to p1ss alot of people off.....

Typical line of BS by them. While there are arguments here and there about aftermarket air filters vs. stock, the dealer has no leg to stand on in their argument. Tell them that the Moss-Magnussen Act requires that they PROVE CONCLUSIVELY that the filter caused the MAF failure (which they can't). We all know the Maxima MAF is a weak peice of crap, and plenty of people with stock filters have had failed MAFs, just as plenty with aftermarket filters/intakes have had no MAF problems at all....

Happy to hear they are warrantying it...and now that you're out of warranty, tell them to shove their Nissan air filter...go buy a K&N or something....

i had a K&n filter in when it blew the funny thing is that i had the jwt pop charger on there for a long time and changed my car back to stock because the filter on the intake was pretty dirty maybe i should have left the intake on

ask them why the nissan oem filter has a certain amount of oil it in as well. you can test this by using an oem filter for around 5k miles and wiping the oily residue off the screen before the maf.
