When i was installing the rear shocks, the 14 mm piston rod nut is plastic coated on the thread. Due to this plastic i couldnt easily screw on the nut without the piston turning. I was afraid to grab the piston with anything so as not to void warranty. So instead i used a different 14 mm nut without the plastic coating which screwed on easily without the piston rod turning. So was the original nut important and should i take off the shocks and screw on the original nut?

The plastic is there to make sure the bolt will not come undone on its own. "Thread Locker" There is a flat spot on the piston that you can use to grab and tighten.

 

so its likely the regular nut will come off in time?

 

Maybe, It is hard to say. I do not wanna say it wont, but it might. There has to be a reason why it came with that type of nut

 

Another thing you can do - stick another nut on top of the one your put on (they call it a double or jam nut). It'll keep the original nut from backing out and it's alot simpler than pulling the whole strut back out.

 

I noticed just today that one of the shocks is screwed in farther than the other, at any case i put another nut on top of each piston rod. guess ill have to take that shock out sometime and tighten it farther.
