BOOM goes the fuel line

Well I got my tranny back together last night and it works fine, but today the rubber line just before the 2002 damper on the fuel rail blew and sent gas towards the driver side of the engine bay. I was almost home so got there before I ran out of gas.

I was told by someone that the 2k2 damper on one end of the rail caused too much restriction. He's probably right, the rubber line blew JUST before the damper.

I use the 2002 fuel rail/injectors with a 2k2 damper on one end of the rail and the 95 Fuel Pressure regulator on the other end, and run a return-style line.

I noticed on the original 95 fuel rail, there is the FPR on one end, and nothing on the other, no damper, the line just goes into a rubber tube and back to the fuel tank.

I want to replace the damper by a simply line with no restriction, any idea how to do that?

SX7R fuel fitting

I too ran the 2k2 damper acting as a fuel fitting, but bought the SX7R fitting just to clean the engine bay up.

This fitting is listed as being for a 95-01 but may work or be adaptable... I used this for my VI to eliminate the 00 damper...

EDIT: just beat me to it... but there's the link anyways.

5th gens have dampers becuase there fuel filter is in the tank. 4th gens have fuel filter in the engine bay and it acts like a damper so we dont need one

So does it make sense to you guys that the rubber line just blew for no reason after 1 1/2 months of running the car? Too much restriction?

When you say "blew", what do you mean? Did the fitting fail? Line just burst?

I mean VQ35s run ~51psi of fuel pressure vs. the VQ30s 43psi return setup, however FMU/N20 people typically push 80-100psi of fuel pressure for limited times without issue.

What fuel pressure are you running?

Don't know. The rubber line blew and I replaced it in the meantime with another similar (but stronger) one. Everything else is fine.

So you are saying the line actually failed and blew up? Not that the fitting came loose and allowed the line to come off or anything like that?

The rubber line just tore out a 1/2" gash and sent gas all over the driver side of the engine bay. Was the rubber already bad? Is the 2k2 damper building up too much restriction? No idea. I'm just gonna order the one nismo posted and be able to sleep well at night.

Wierd huh? Never heard or seen anything like it.

It was probably already weakened. Did you use pliers to remove that fuel line from the 3.0 fuel rail?

Possible it was weak without any interference on your part but I think that's unlikely. More likely is you damaged it with pliers, pinching it in something, etc. You aren't running nearly as high fuel pressure as many boosted people, so I wouldn't worry about it happening again. Freak occurrance most likely.

What i meant was it was weakened before it popped. Meaning he weakened it before it was attached to the new fuel rail.

I was just saying what I think happened to it which is what you thought happened as well. My response wasn't to your post nismology.
