i really messed up this time....

when installing my indiglos i messed up my needles. after i put everything back together only the tach is opperational. if i tap on the cluster the other needles move every time the cluster is tapped then they stop. any suggestions that dont involve a new cluster? i am going to take the cluster out and reinstall the needles after work. when i removed them i just pulled them out and reinstalled them by simply pushing them back in with the needles in the same position i removed them in. after reading the write up i realize i am a complete idiot. never let me do anything without reading a write up first. thanks in advance--dave

well....looks like i might need a cluster.... when i removed the needles i pulled the posts out too. i was told that ruins the cluster entirely. is this true?

I'm not sure that it ruins the cluster. I heard of people having the same issues. try tighting the screws that hod the needle to the face plate. agian never installed a cluster but hope this helps.

i guess ill just have to bite the bullet then.... the indiglos i got dont have screw holes in them and the hole for the post is too large. damn shoddy workmanship. how would i install the gauge faces without removing the needles?

i talked to a tech at my local nissan dealership and he said the odometer should automatically set where the other one left off. and if not bring it in and they could set it for me.

The miles on the cluster will not reset, the mileage will need to be changed by the dealer

If you're just installing the gauge faces, you should not need to remove the needles.

Just work the needle through the hole in the center of each face until you get to the center and push down til it pops in.

should i remove my oem faces first or just lay the new ones over the factory faces? and i dont have screw holes in the indiglos. if i ran a screw through one would it ruin it?

You can put the new faces right over the old ones. Just use doublesided tape or superglue to secure the new face down. If the new face layer sticks up at all the needles may get stuck while trying to move.

I had to drill the screw holes for mine as well. You should be fine as long as you don't break any of the metal lines running through the back of the face.

Make paper templates of the old faces to use on the new ones so you know where to make the holes.

awesome, thanks man. my new cluster should be here sometime today. i'm not going to bother with fixing my old cluster because i am afraid the calibration will never be correct. $100 is worth the peace of mind.

It seems almost impossible to get the new gauges over the needles since there is a small piece on the back of the centerpiece of the needle.(if that made any since). I did it with ease in my Camry but it seems much harder with the Max.

they werrent movign because the face plates where blocking the needles from pivoting...you must not have glued them down all the way...second..cant believe you pulled off your needles...but i guess you need experience for that kinda thing..when i had my toyota camry back int he day i did the same thing with the face....except i figured i glued the faceplate incorrectly and i fized it.

Not a problem really. The new face will slide under the round center cap of the needle a bit which should give you enough room to push it down all the way.

Just try to keep the needle from moving too much while you're pushing it down.
