possible to route AC to intake?

i know its random, but i mean, engine makes cold air, why not give some of it back to the engine... im just posting an idea for someone to maybe try... seems like a little ductwork would make this ideal.... post thoughts

hahahahahhah amazing idea. its that kind of out of the box thinking that invents ideas like the hacked airbox and drop resistor mod.. IBTL

What's the point when you turn on teh A/C its going to rob any and more power you gain by routing teh cold air into the intake.. O_O

OMG does that apply the same to a supercharger?

The A/C should be able to produce air temps. approx 40 degrees cooler than the ambient air. You'd probably see a lot better gains from doing this on a FI setup.

AC would just cool the air while supercharger compresses it first. 40 degrees, a couple hp maybe, SC 50 hp I think.

the reason people use an intercooler is because when is air is compressed it heats up, cooling it down compresses it more. and all the intercooler is is a radiator for the air after it's gone through the S/C, the air would be significantly cooler running it through the A/C system, but if the extra load on the engine worth the gains, probably not on a NA engine.

Are you kidding me you're comparing a supercharger to a duct A/C modifcation ?

Im sure if I do this $5 mod I will boost 5psi and gain 80hp...

Also, any power the supercharger robs will be replaced by constant boost, so your point is... where? :moron:

I'd rather keep the A/C as it's intended to do .. cool me off.

This idea is

My point is...
1. The A/C isn't that big of a load on the engine
2. This mod would be more effective than an intercooler
3. This mod is useless unless you are FI and heating the air in the turbo

You talk about this as if you know exactly how much load the A/C compressor puts on the engine and how much gain you could get by further compressing the air with the A/C. You haven't a damn clue about either, so what was your point? ***...

What a truly bizarre idea. I dunno about you, but when I'm driving my car in the winter, when the temp outside is about 70-90 degrees cooler, I don't see any performance gains whatsoever, and when it's 15 F in the winter it's like a cold air buffet. The motor can get as much cold air as it likes.

With that being said, I think it's an idea that will definitely fly with the forum. After all, we've got folks here getting better mpgs with higher octane fuel, getting better acceleration by putting on smaller rims, better steering by cutting the p/s belt, more power with fakey duals, higher top speed with diamond-cut clears, so why not a/c the intake too? Maybe a group sale is in order?

I notice a difference when it's cooler outside.

So do I.

This is good thinking about cooling the intake charge. But, looking at the whole picture, one would realize that the ac compressor uses engine horsepower.

Long story cut short--------the cmpressor would cancel oot any gains seen by the cooler intake charge. But at least your thinking, some people don't.

Sound good to me. Do a dyno now so you can see what power you have. Then schedule one dyno session for every level of the fan on the A/C. I bet ty level four on the fan it will be like stage 4 boost. Great idea hopefully we can capitalize on it. If you don't do it I will.

ROFL i used an alternate account to make this thread didnt want this one banned in case it was taken the wrong way...lol. it was just a random idea i came up with talking to tatanko...but yeah i agree with most of you, any gains would be killed by the compressor, still with a FI setup im sure someone will try it lol good thread
