Door Moulding Repair

My condo neighbor slammed his Buick door into the front and rear moldings on my driver side doors. Of course he had to hit me once on the front moulding and once on the rear...

Anyway, the gouges are maybe 1cm around and the paint is crumpled back in both cases. I think some of the rubber/plastic from each molding piece was scraped off as well. I've apporached my neighbor and he's will to contribute some money to repair the damage. Problem is that the dealer wants $40 for each molding piece, $50 to paint each molding piece(smoke color), and $45 to install. So that's $225 total...

The car has ~4k miles on it so I want the repair to look good. Can anybody recommend something a little cheaper? My neighbor is balking at the $225 quote...giving me the line about his "great body guy down the street" that will probably do it for much less...

Thanks

When I got my car, the dealer had to replace one of the door moulding because of a scratch (front right). I saw on the invoice that they paid $35 for it and painted it in house. If you had that painted at an autoshop, it shouldn't cost more than $50 for both pieces. Or order them painted from Nissan. Check out this link: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=410897

He damaged your car, he has asolutely no say in who fixes it, if you want to get it fixed like it was, get three quotes from shops YOU want and provide estimates, if they are higher than what he expects, F%uck him, maybe he will learn not to fling his doors open in the future...

Thanks. The dealer I went to said they only sell it unpainted but I see in this list that it appears they do sell the mouldings painted. Unfortunately, when ordering painted, the price jumps from $32 to $79 for each piece and I think those are list prices...dealer will be higher. Yikes. Maybe I'll try to find the cheapest source for the unpainted pieces and then find a cheap body shop to paint them...

Looking at that list again, I see that only the '04 version comes prepainted. The '05 colors are not available (like smoke). So I would have to get the non-painted version...

Agree, get it prepainted, the cost doesn't seem so bad and will look better IMO, to me time IS money, doing the install, than having to take it to a paint shop to have them paint it, waiting, then installing will lengthen the time to complete, thus increasing overall cost. Your ride, your call...

What do mean he will contribute? He would be paying or bleeding if it was my car. Warren

Maybe your neighbor should be doing the leg work, not you.
