What about all red tails? I think that would look alot better than red on top and clear on bottom. So the 97-99 tails would have inner: red top, clear bottom / outer: red top, red bottom.

Anyone know anything about someone making all red outer tails?

I think you would have to get the red/clear tails and then just paint the clear part red. What about the reverse light though?

 

There are no red/clear tails you can just "get". They're custom made.

The easiest thing to do is get the APC all clear taillights and just paint the entire lens red. But be advised--one member said he got ticketed for this modification.

 

it doesn't look bad at all...just that i prefer red/clear tails...obviously redded out is a way cheaper mod...just buy a can of transparent candy apple paint at a hobby store and color the orange...costs about 4 bux to do it...compared to 150-190...

 

If you paint the orange over with the red, it'll still show thru red??? how is this?? I got all clear ones on order for my 95, and I'ma paint red/clear then use an LED 1156 for the turn.... /

 

yeah it does show red...but it's a itty itty itty bit darker than the stock red...but hey it looks way better than orange

 

I'm not saying that they were easy to obtain. I know he'll have to get them from David L. or try and make it himself.

The other member might have gotten ticketed because according to law you need a red reflector on the rear of the car. I'm not saying he didn't have one. Just saying that this could have been why he got ticketed. He should have had it though if he had the whole tail painted red.

 

i've never gotten pulled over yet...and i've seen a million cops ever since i got them....first i had them redded out by taping red tape on it and then i tried painting...so my tails have been red for about 2-3mos.

 

What red paint did you use? I've heard there are a number of them on the market. Supposedly one of the more common ones, Plastikote #300, has more of a "pink" look to it. I'm looking for one that has a deep OEM red look.

 

I deal with Greg at Custommaxima.com for the paint. he's suppose to be sending me the clear lights + a can of paint for them...

 

hmmm...i'm gonna have to go home and take a look at the can...i ripped the paper off of the can so it's a silver can now...so i dunno if i can help u there...

Lots of cars have red lights (only) in the back stock. The only way you could get a ticket is if the red is too dark and you don't get enough light out of them. I can see this happening if you use opaque paint or if you paint right over the orange. If you clear them first and them go red with a translucent paint (or maybe laquer) you should be all set. I don't know how a cop would even know that they were non-stock unless you did a poor paint job (or they were too dark).
