y-pipe on factory exhaust?

Anybody running a y-pipe with a factory catback? If so, any difference in exhaust tone? Which one is the best in your opinion? I will put a frankencar catback on sooner or later, but want to do a y-pipe first.

I definately noticed a difference. Added a nice low rumble. Not very loud at all though.

BTW, I went with the Cattman. It seems to be the best quality available as Im sure others will attest to.

I read many postings on this forum regarding this topic and it looks y-pipe mode without any other changes will make a difference, a noticeable difference. This seems to be the majority of the answers that i read here. I am planning to do one myself i the very near future.

The y-pipe and b-pipe both have some restrictive points, but the stock muffler and rear section flows nicely.

I wouldn't doubt it, my stock y and b pipe have holes now my cars sounds like a civic, car feel more restricted now with the holes. Can't wait for my parts to come in.

Does it worth it to change the b-pipe if I buy a y-pipe? Or just change the y-pipe?

No. . . . . . . . IMO of course.

G35c ???
I have headers on my 3.5L, and still doesn't sound like that, in fact you can't even tell I have headers or any engine modifications for that matter.

I have a Cattman Y-pipe and Injen CAI with stock exhaust (so far). It's only louder under WOT. Outside of that, it sounds close to stock IMHO.

Injen CAI, Cattman Y-pipe, stock Catback, it makes a lovely sound and noticeble improvement. The 1st mods to your car should be the Y-pie, then intake, then maybe b pipe. You change the muffler the sound WILL get louder, you change everything else, it'll still sound mostly the same.

i ran that way for a while and it sounded nice but not really loud. now i have an hks muffler and it just sounds sweeter. but running a ypipe with factory cat back does sound good. here's a sound clip of mine with a ypipe and gutted cat.

it makes it sound a lil like the g35 exhaust. a little more deep rumble. the only reason i got mine was cuz my precats were clogged

i have a y pipe with stock exhaust. at idle it makes a small bubbling sound, deeper than stock. if you want to sound like a G35, put a test pipe to replace the main cat and putting a B pipe after would be the nail in the coffin.

I have Injen CAI, Cattman Headers, and Cattman B-pipe. The car sounds almost stock under "normal driving" but, once WOT it turns into a beast.

If you want to make the G35's sound like wussazz cars put on headers, highflow cat (or test pipe) and a cattman cattback...

Maxima's sound mean as hell wide open.

I have just a Warpspeed Y-pipe right now and it is definitely a little deeper at low rpms, but other than that it sounds the same. I love the slight rumble between about 1,500 - 2,500. Like a moron, I didnt install the hanger though, and at the track when i launched the flex busted so as of now mine sounds like crap. New triple-ply flex section is sitting here waiting for my warpspeed b-pipe to get here.

How about the stock exhaust manifolds and stock catalytic converter? If he got headers instead of just the y-pipe and if he got a test pipe to replace his cat, THEN you could say " else is there .. bseides a muffler since you're doing a y & b-pipe?"

But it was an invalid post since the original poster asked about y-pipe only

And we all know headers & Y are one in the Maxima world .. so him saying hes getting a y-pipe canceles out headers too.

You're exactly right...

That's why I said:

No I dont think so .... Headers cancel out y-pipe, since all header systems for the max come with y-pipes... Max manifolds are restrictive and heavy, getting rid of them is a huge bonus.

Considering new manifolds put more power to the ground than an entire catback does... I would not cancel them out. a header system puts down another 5-7hp over a y-pipe alone while you are lucky to see any gain with a catback.

Calling me a ? Hmm, well I stated that headers/y-pipe are one, meaing headers cancel out y-pipe if one has headers (system) ...

02+ gain more than 5-7 whp than just a y-pipe.
