Ebay exhaust

I googled didn't find anything....Has anyone bought a resonator off ebay? good/bad? I'm getting ready to put on an exhaust w/ a magnaflow muffler and I don't want it to be too loud. http://forums.maxima.org/misc.php?do...=0&forumid=10#

and if not on ebay, where's a good place to get the biggest resonator I can?
While I'm at it, suggestions for cats and where to get them. THanks

Isn't that a number for a muffler? I already have a magnaflow muffler #14803. I'm looking for a resonator/test pipe.

you dont need a test pipe, test pipes are to replace the cat and still have a place to stick an O2 sensor, a resonator is basically a small straight through muffler with no tips

the magnaflow 14416 is a resonator, i bought it with my magnaflow 14805 muffler

Well I want a 2.5 instead of a 2.25, anyway, I think I'm just going to go with magnaflow all the way through (-b pipe)

Installed a 3.5 on an integra, only gained not lost so you cant loose from a bigger hole.

WRONG WRONG WRONG.

It has been proven time and time again that the maxima does not benefit at all from a full exhaust over 2.25" or maybe 2.5" (if you have alot of N/A engine mods and headers). Even alot of the FI guys only run 2.5", or 3" at the largest with the VQ.

Power is not improved from larger exhaust, it is improved by increased exhaust velocity. A 2.5" or 3" exhaust on a N/A maxima will do only ONE thing: reduce exhaust velocity....you will lose both power and torque. No idea what you had on your integra, but as a former teggy owner myself, I seriously doubt you had any gains in actual power (more like losses) unless you were FI and spraying. Talk about overkill...More noise =/ more power.

Damn there is alot of misinformation flying around in this thread. Bigger is not always (or usually) better for exhaust.

You guys sound like the ricers who put a 4" exhaust tip on their muffler and claim that it increases power from "better flow"

I will add that most people on here with NA maxes that have minor/no engine mods will not benefit from gutting the cat OR putting a test pipe in.

2.5" or 3" exhaust, to boot, will do NOTHING except reduce exhaust velocity unless you're also putting in 2.5 or 3" headers or y-pipe....

One addition for Treven:

For $28, there is NO CHANCE that that pipe is stainless steel....it's probably mild steel with a chrome coating. Remember, with exhaust "you get what you pay for".

I mean, even the test pipe from CM, which is NOT stainless steel, costs $99....

Irish is 100% correct. Your exhaust is like a siphon, if you will, and if the pipe is too big the exhaust gases will not flow properly. That is the simplified version about scavenging. Do a goggle search on back pressure and exhaust and you'll pull up some very technical explanations on how it all works. There was also a member who put his stock muffler up against a straight through muffler desgin and he actually had better times with the stock muffler.
