Heel & Toe: Experienced Peeps Only!

As with all driving techniques: practice makes perfect.

I'm having difficulty with the heel and toe on my stock pedals as the gas pedal seems to be too low.

Those who do heel and toe on 4g maxima's, what is the technique that you use? i.e. positioning of your foot.

I put "experience peeps only" in the title hopefully to eliminate those of you who may respond with hersey or speculation. I'm looking for informative responses by those who heel and toe regularily on stock pedals.

Searching the internet for technique works to some extent however each cars pedals are setup somewhat differently, hence I've come to the 4th gen forum!

Thanks for any informative responses!

i havnt had any 4g problems. i use the tip of my right foot on the brake and the rest of the foot pivots so my heel touches the gas. maybe ur pedals are screwed up.

A lot of Zs and other sports cars have adjustable pedals, but not the Maxima. any adjustments in them are for maintenance purposes only.

As for how I do it, I stick the left ball of my foot (under my big toe) on the brake pedal, and then I twist my foot sideways and actually use the right edge of my foot to blip the gas.. I've tried turning my whole foot and using my heel on the gas, but that's too difficult- unless you're pigeon-toed. I'm duck footed, so my feet don't like to point that direction.

I also highly suggest some aftermarket pedal covers like AutoVation's if you're going to do any competitive or high performance driving (auto X, track days, etc). makes it MUCH easier so you don't even have to think about it. $60 very well spent.

(There was a group deal going for them, so you can see some pics in the GD forum...)

i use the ball of my right foot on the brake, and as i push in the brake i use the right portion of my foot (the portion under my pinki toe) on the gas. i pretty much got it perfected now. im probably the best heel toe blipper out there. alot of car gangs wanted me for my heel-toe blipping ability alone, not to mention my bowstaff skills. but i digress....

my technique looks to be the same as the others in here. Pretty much just put your foot straight up between the brake and gas and use the left side for break and the right side of your right foot for gas. It sounds tough but its really easier then it sounds, just gotta practice. Oh and speaking of practice, I reccomend neighborhood roads very late at night or any roads where your not going that fast in turns and where theres very little risk of other cars for you to run into.

Thanks guys, appreciate the responses.

I've been doing the right ball of foot on the brake and right side of foot gas thing...I guess as I mentioned in my 1st post: practice makes perfect! Rev-matching on downshifts is childs play compared to this, but I'll probably have it down after a good late night session in the neighborhood. Thanks again,

Jordan

The aftermarket pedals helps greatly in getting a positive feel for both the pedals, when I installed mine I placed the gas pedal (which is already wider than stock) a little closer to the brake so I could keep some more of my foot on the brake and still hit the gas.

The gas pedal is a bit low, and they are a bit far apart for my taste. But I do it as Matt does it, ball of my foot on the brake, and the right edge of my foot on the gas. I don't twist my foot around and use my actual heel on the gas.
