I'm wondering what the diffrences are in an abs axle and non abs axle?
Is it just the abs has a ring? I am going to be replcing my axles because the boots have been split for well over a year and i have to replace my trans anyway.
My car currently has abs and i plan on removing it since it will be a toy for the drag strip rather than a daily driver.I'm not sure there is much weight diffrence in the two axles so maybe i should get abs axles incase i want to put the abs back on. Anyone know what the weight diffrence is? Or yet how much all the abs components weigh? I was thinking around 50 pounds

 

The only differance in the axle is the toothed ring. It can't weigh more then a few ounces.

To remove the ABS system you'll need to take out the actuator and replumb the brake lines. You might need a different master cylinder as well. The sensors in the hubs are only a few ounces as well, just leave them alone. The actuator can't weigh more then 10 pounds, personally I'd just leave the system in there. The whole system can't be more then 10-15 pounds and you never know when you'll need it to stop you safely, even at the track.

 

Thanks for the info. I have another max that doesn't have abs i was thinking of putting the abs on so i would have everything to swap back and forth. Is their more to the abs system other than the actuator, computer,and sensors? I won't probably do it if it's that light.

 

the abs "ecu" is in the drivers kick panel. i say leave it be, its just a pain to swap all of that stuff out. better off getting a lighter battery or ditching the spare.

 

I don't have a spare and my battery weighs 8 pounds. The last time i weighed my car it was 2650. I will probaly get abs axles since it won't matter either way if i don't want the abs and the cost is the same.
