anybody have any ideas as to what the culprit could be? It is weird, the alarm still works, however, none of the keyless features work. And no its not the battery in the remote, i have tried everything i can think of. My only question would be are there fuses that could keep the keyless from working. For example, i replaced the interior illumination fuse and now my horn works. just wondering if that could have anything to do with anything. any help would be appreciated.

My brother had this problem on his 95 GLE, he ended up having to take it to the dealer, it was something with the chip inside. They charged him $80 so he wasn't too happy.

Justin:

Did any of the keyless' symtoms include a loss in range as far as locking and unlocking doors? I used to have incredible range but now it isnt too good.

i dont recall that being a symptom...

it was weird. one day everything worked fine. next day no keyless stuff worked. umm, i know its not the remotes i have because neither work now and i have replaced both batteries. On a funny note though, one day i was just messing with the remote and cursing it saying work darn you work. Eventually my pressing of the unlock button became a full body motion including me jumping up and down in frustration. Well this jumping eventually caused me to lose my grip on the remote and somehow throw the remote in the only puddle within hundreds of yards. Dont know what that has to do with anything, just thought it was kinda funny.

Then I think it is definately a problem with the chip inside. I think the only way to fix this is from the dealer reprogramming you a new remote to your car. Its a pain but I think the only possible solution.

It may sound stupid, but if you hold the transmitter to your chin (and press the button on it), you get more range. Your body becomes an antenna (kinda like messing with the TV antenna).

be sure to check eBay... sometimes the transmitters go for like $10-$20 bucks there. there's instructions all over the web and at several of the member here's web sites that tell you how to program transmiterrs for your car. I dont' know why both would go out at the same time though.

do the doors lock and unlock fine with teh switch at the driver's door? when you put the key into the driver's door, does one turn unlock the driver's door and a second turn unlock the rest of the doors? what you say the alarm still works, do you mean that the lights still blink twice when you press the lock button?

is there anything else around where you're parked now that can be generating electrical interference? that might cause problems as well.

V-mok... thanks for the interest

ok here is every last detail that i can think of regarding all of the keyless/alarm stuff.

1.) When i lock and shut the door, all doors lock and the alarm becomes armed... the LED stays on for oh 20 sec and then begins blinking.

2.) When i turn once, the drivers side unlocks but 2 turns unlocks all doors.

3.) The remotes are worthless. No matter what i do, even reprogramming other people's to work with my car, nothing happens. So there is no blinking when lock buttons are hit.

4.) I dont think there is any interference, they dont work regardless of where i am.

You could try reprogramming your Keyless Remotes.

Go to Steve Cutchen's excellent MaxFAQ page:

Click on SUBTOPICS below Maintenance.

Accidental reprogramming?

Funny this post came up today. Cause the same thing happened to me just two days ago. I used my keyless to unlock the doors just fine, drove it to my friend's place, parked and proceeded to press the Lock button. After walking away for about 10 feet and pressing a few times, I noticed the blinkers didn't go off like they usually did. So returned to the car and did that whole reprogramming process. (Had to reprogram once more when I got a hold of my spare remote today..)

No idea why it would seemingly reprogram itself. But a simple reprogram fixed my problem. Although you already said you have tried other remotes... so it seems that doesn't work.... My guess is some fuse blew out??

And has anyone else ever had this "accidental reprogram" take place or know why?

ok... (2) was to check the logic of the system. I don't know if Dan can help us here, but there may be some sort of antenna lead for the factory alarm/keyless entry. I don't know, but if that is the case, it could be this became disconnected. When I was working on my brother's 300ZX, we noticed that the door locks and the pin switch wiring all went into the ECU and were controlled through the ECU. However, if the unlock logic works (1 turn 2 turn thing) it'd seem like everything is hooked up/working properly.

When you say you're reprogramming other people's transmitters to work on your car, is your car responding the way it should be (i.e. after unlocking the door x number of time, the parking lights blink, then blink again when you program the first transmitter, you unlock/lock and try again?)

yah all that stuff worked

as far as i know, all things worked fine and provided there was nothing wrong in the ecu, the remotes should have worked
