5th gen prelude vs 4th max

just wanted to have an idea of where my car would stand vs a friend's prelude. both cars are rated at 190hp. Both are auto's and both are stock. well prelude has a lot of show stuff. like pointless guages and lighting. 3in exhaust. no engine work done. 18in rims and lowered. And i'm completely bone stock.

He talks a lot about his VTEC and i'm a little annoyed. I wanted to challege him to a race at the track. loser pays winner $50 plus full tank of gas and cost to race.

Just wondering how my max would stack up. I think the race would pend on the launch and thats it. Both cars seem to be near the same weight.

a guy on here managed to run 15.6 in his stock Prelude. Not sure how he did it

They typically run 15.9-16.3@86-87mph with a 2.4-2.5 60ft time. Just get your lauches down and you'll do fine. He has VTEC charge, but he falls out of VTEC range after each upshift.

You will win against the auto lude. The preludes you have to worry about are the VTEC 5spds. They will dust you.

If you race for 50 bones DO NOT race from a roll. Race from a stop only. Those auto ludes have no Torque.

Precisely. You should be able to finish a few tenths ahead of him, assuming both cars are running well and reaction times are similar.

Max (auto) - 7.4-7.6
Max (manual) - 6.6
Prelude (auto) - ???
Prelude (manual) - 6.8

I think you can take him. To guarentee a win ... pick up a cattman Y pipe and call it a day.

Prelude 5 spds....ahhhh Im ever so scared. dont worry dude, work on some lauching, try brake torquing (SP?) between 1100-1700 rpms, and see which one yanks you off the line faster. If you do that, you will win. Simple as that. From a roll, you would beat the Prelude.

You will be fine.

Auto Lude's are only good for very high 15's. Just get a decent launch and it will be ok.

i used to own a 5th gen auto prelude before the max. the lude has no tq compared to the max....and i've also own an auto max b4 too. if u have a decent launch, u shud be fine. vtec ludes gain power on higher rpms and goes up to 7400 rpm redline. but, by the end of the 1/4 mile, u shud be ahead of him by maybe a car length. good luck to both of u.

Hmm the 5 spd 93's SRV with 190HP run high 14's stock for sure. The auto would suck *** hard. I wasn't even aware that the SRV, which has the 190HP, came in auto?

Bottom Line: Stock Vs. Stock

Auto Max > Auto Lude
5 spd max > 5 spd lude (driver's with the same capability)

I have a friend who has stopped mouthing off at me for the time being about whipping me. He has a 98 Honduh Accord, V6 VTEC, autotragic, bone stock. I have a 95SE, 5-speed, with K&N panel filter and Budget y-pipe.

It strikes me that I should be able to beat him from a stop or a roll, doesn't it.

uhh...you should be able to MURDER him, from a roll or a stop. From a stop, no contest, provided you know how to drive your car. I beat one by two plus cars with my auto, mods listed in sig.

LMFAO. I would add that you make sure the max is in "Drive" and that you step on the farthest right pedal all the way down.

lol, he said he was stick, and he said he new how to drive, so I'm not too worried about that. Dont try to powershift so hard you miss a gear, then you'll look like an idiot. If its not too bad of a mis-shift, you should still be able to pull back on him, depending on the distance your racing. Go home happy with the win. Ask if he wants to put slips on the line, and then take his car and ebay it for a turbo kit

I don't know if you guys have ever raced a 5 speed 97+ lude. A 4th gen maxima, auto or manual, with equal drivers, can't keep up. Sorry, and a 92-96 VTEC is even quicker than the 5th gen.

Well he generalized 5th gen. Preludes have no torque anyway, You all should take them from a dead start but watch out on a rolling start or freeway

From the info I have seen, a 97+ 5-speed Prelude VTEC runs around 15.4 in the 1/4 mile, which is about the same as a 5-speed Maxima -- VE or VQ30 engines. The older VTEC ones are like 15.2.

I ran a 15.2 with only a y-pipe and pop charger (nearly bald H rated tires, too).

IMO, the two 5-speed cars are pretty close to equal so I wouldn't say that a Maxima "can't keep up." I have no clue about ATs.

With Neal driving, the Lude will only see tail lights. 14.5 in his stock beater...

Yeah but you guys are comparing the best times ever to the times a magazine got for a prelude. Go on some forums and see that there has been more than one bone stock prelude in the mid 14's if you wanna use that argument

Not anywhere close. A prelude against that car is about like us against a 2.5 Altima.

I was comparing magazine times on both the Maxima and the Prelude.

People that race either car at the track are probably going to have some mods, anyway. I think modded with some bolt ons, both are cabable of mid 14s or lower, depending on the driver.

Either way, stock for stock or modded vs. modded (with similar mods), the 1/4 mile times for both cars are similar.

An auto 4th or 5th gen (3.0) is going to to get pulled by a 92-96 VTEC or a 97+ Prelude (all 97+ Preludes are H22A VTEC engines, and 92-96 VTEC preludes are H22A VTEC as well). Both preludes are capable of 14s stock, something not possible in an auto 4th or 5th gen.

You are dead wrong about a 5spd max however. The 5spd max can, will, and does keep up, and more often than not, shows the prelude it's taillights.

I'd go up against any stock prelude out there with anyone driving it and not bat an eyelash while driving my bone stock almost 200k mile winter beater 1995 5speed max and guarantee a win assuming I don't mess up. If I get a clean run in my max the prelude driver can do whatever he wants - he's going to lose until I hit my governor at 116mph lol.

All engines are not created equally. For reasons unknown one engine may pull much stronger than another which was built to the same spec. I'm sure everyone can agree on this.

Yes, the ludes are pretty fast and the 5 spds are capable of mid to high 14's bone stock. I've seen it with my own eyes; a H23 powered (none VTEC) lude run a 14.7 bone stock. However, I have also seen a VQ30 max run the same time dead stock.

With equally good drivers the car that has a better running motor would be victorious.

I can say however that I've raced a good 14-15 NA preludes in MN w/ the basic bolt ons, before getting the MEVI, and have only been beaten twice by two ludes with extensive (what i consider to be extensive: all the bolt ons you can imagine, valvetrain upgrades, stg 2 cams, ecu, and a decent job of tuning on the dyno) mods. These 2 ludes are running in the high 13's and low 14's though.

So to say that a 4th gen auto or manual could not be able to keep up with a properly driven prelude is an absolute outrage and I CHALLENGE YOU (TO A MORTAL KOMBAT!) to prove that statement. Hit me up anytime if you've got a stock prelude that would like to have a friendly race.

5 spd vs 5 spd, or auto vs auto, Im choosing the maxima just because of the Tq. And ill take neal's beater against a lot of other cars too, neal driving of course. a modded auto 4th gen would be able to hang with or beat a 5 spd lude. I say modded to include my mods, VI and such.
