ProLumen vs. helios HID's (your thoughts please)

what is the difference?

i need to buy some hid's for my E430 and i'm shopping around and really confused as to what the difference is.
also anyone with the kits please let us shoppers knoew thw quality of these 2 companies. i'm getting sick of the yellowish hologen light on my benz. why didn't they make hid's stock options

i had some nice hid's i purchased way back from freddy but he no longer sells them. i sold those off my max cause i'm de-modding my max- i wish they would have fit the benz so i don't have to do this search. thanks

both kits are relatively the same, they both have no name ballasts, which was my concern and kept me from buying them. I checked forums and many people said the prolumen gave out around a year or so, but with lifetime warranties, i suppose that helps. Since your putting this in a benz, get some quality parts, like hella, denso ballasts with some german bulbs which are rebased and will fit your stock housing.

pretty much any ballast from philips, denso, mastu****a, bosch, or any other OEM would do you good. They tend to run cheaper also (even though they are used).

i dont think helios makes the ballasts, they just stamp their name on the product

I'd stay away from all "kits" as they are pretty much all made in taiwan or korea and use inferior no-name ballasts and bulbs. they are know to blow out after a while. i actually used a Helios kit from the GD for about a month and one ballast died for no reason. i was able to return the whole setup to AMEX for a refund. thank god for AMEX and their return protection. go to hidplanet.com. they have a retrofit package for $370 with all brand new, OEM equipment. you can't beat OEM. go retro or go home

i was told by umnitza that prolumen has better reputation than helios. prolumen also offers life time warrenty and helios doesn't.

i have HID on my car for 1 month and no problem with it. i'm pretty sure these taiwan product will last for couple year... hopefully

yeah, funny how that works, you sell "180" of anything and no one replies.

Just an FYI - we've sold about 60 ProLumen kits to the Maxima crowd, I find it kind of hard to believe larger numbers

Prolumen - only ones that have the highest quality control, only ones that offer the G5 (highest efficiency/quality) ballast, only product that we support with lifetime warranty.

If you dont want to do a retrofit, genuine phillips kits are quality.

without a retrofit youd still use rebased bulbs that would blind the hell out of the person in front of you.

Ok, I guess umnitza didn't clear it up. There is not such thing as a philips kit. You were lied to

You right a true quality HID kit would encompass Philips H.I.D. bulbs and Hella Generation III ballasts.

But if you not gonna get projectors to accompany this, you might as well get any other kit. Prolumin has a warrenty making it a good kit.

Or Osram bulbs.

Phillips makes capsules. Generally found in a D2S or D2R base. The rest is some company making a new base for it with new connectors.

Depends on how you have it set up. If it's in an h4 housing, you can get shields that get rid of the glare. Acura TL's with reflector housings glare more than my H4 cefiro setup.

And for those that are looking to go HID, go with nothing but Phillips/Osram/Hella/Bosch/Denso...don't mess with these ricer HID kits. Get quality. OEM parts will last the longest. I personally have Phllips 85126 d2r 4100k bulbs with Denso ballasts and H4 shields that I semi-retrofitted into my cefiros. I love them, and they don't glare. I would rather have projectors though. bixenon > all. Mabye someday.

That's one of the most ignorant statements possible.

Are you saying we shouldn't buy something just because of the name? Did you know that Philips LVQ212 ballasts failed left and right?

I understand that.

philips doesnt make a kit you can purchase that is already boxed up and ready to ship. These are actually parts put together to make it a "xenondepot" kit, which is the website.

I'm saying I don't trust aftermarket HID kits, and would rather put one together myself. I am a firm believer in OEM products. Some org members don't really know too much about HID kits, so they go your route (buying from you), which is fine, and in some ways is a easier for them.

First...NO car...NEEDS a retrofit. Secondly, he didn't state what year benz it was, and for what we know, he's already had HIDs in there and looking for replacements. If he was looking to retro, he would have said so, as he's been on this board for quite some time.

well...first off, he doesnt have hids, we already know that by his post. second, hids in a e430 halogen dont look great as my dad has the same car and weve already tried that. no car needs a retrofit of course, but the intent of hids is to get better light output, not for just the look.

What most people don't realize is that Most benz's don't come with HID's Standard. They are usually a 1500. upgrade.
