Took the header wrap off, now the bees are back!!
Well, since I have been on vacation and got some stuff done around the house, and I was already dirty, I decided to get under the car and check out the y-pipe. It has been wrapped for a long time now, so I wanted to see if there was any major rust issues. This did not appear to be an issue, there was some discoloration, but some sand paper made it shiny again. I also wanted to check if I even needed the wrap since doing the "Dave B aftermarker y-pipe bracket mod" (http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....light=dave+mod). I thought that since it felt smoother after the mod, and maybe a few less bees, I would try it. Man I have been driving around for a couple of days without the wrap, and all I can say is, IT IS GOING BACK ON! Those darn bees came back with a vengeance. It is bad, and it was supposed to be the Warpspeed stainless steel one without the darn bees. I already had it checked for leaks, so I know it is the pipe itself. Well I know what I will be doing tomorrow
. My family and I are waking up early to go help paint and clean the school at our parish, so I will be already dirty and ready to go under the car when I get home
.
By the way, if you ever take off your headerwrap wear some protective clothing. I totally forgot about the wrap being made of fiberglass, and what I thought was just dust and dirt was not. I was very glittery and itchy when I was done

The only bad thing that I've read from wrapping the y-pipe is the rust issue. This was not an issue with mine. I've had mine wrapped with no issues for a while now. I was just curious to see if the addition of a hose clamp to where the stock y-pipe bracket goes would help (since the WSP pipe does not have this bracke). It did not help the bees in the can noise, but it did help the overall smoothness of the car. I will be putting new headerwrap on in a couple of hours.
Normally I would recommend avoiding wrapping a y-pipe, but in San Diego it might not be such a problem from a rust and corrosion perspective. However, I would be inclined to replace it from time to time, say twice a year - in the fall and in the spring for example.
edit - on 2nd thought, maybe only once a year. Isn't exhaust wrap fairly expensive?

I finished putting the header wrap back on a little while ago. Took a shower and went for a little ride. Makes a big difference, the bees are sleeping once again
