HELP! TPS failed and replaced on an auto

Hey all, let me give you some background on the problem... My TPS was failing and during that time I started feeling slippage in my auto trans ended up getting an error code on the TPS so I replaced it and adjusted it according to the TSB. After that my trans was slipping between 1-2 2-3 3-4. Took it to the dealer and they hooked up the consult and performed base idle and self learn. The car stopped slipping between 1-2 and 3-4 but still slips between 2-3 and now at times slips out of 1 when coming to a stop, I had to give a little gas to put it back into gear. As far as the slipping is concerned the engine revs up a little and drops back down between shifts, but no weird noise or hard bang or hard shift. I took it back to the dealer and they said everything is in spec but I do have an error code on the front O2 sensor.

Again I did not have a slipping trans until the TPS started to go so I am thinking that the trans is OK and something has to be set or readjusted. Does anyone have any ideas?

Tranny fluid is fine, the trans has 127K mile on it. It’s hard to believe that it was a coincidence that the tranny would fail just when the TPS did as well… It was slipping through all the gears but the dealer adjusted something using the consult and now it only slips from 2-3…

Well I know the TPS and Speed sensor is used by the ECU to determine Shift points, I keep reading about shift mapping in the ECU is there a way to adjust that?

Check the adjustment yourself.

Part 1 - Check operation of TPS. (second device in from throttle opening)
Connect an ohm meter between terminals 2 & 3. The resistance reading when the throttle is fully closed should be 0.5K and the resistance reading at WOT should be 4.0K. The sweep should be clean and linear.

Part 2 - Check operation of the wide open/closed switch (1st device in from throttle opening)
Connect an ohm meter between pins 5 & 6. There should be continuity when the throttle is closed and no continuity when the throttle is opened.

I have I am the one that actually installed the TPS. The new TSB states to adjust via the wide open/closed throttle switch. So I know that's right. But given that this is far removed from how the original was installed from the factory, would you say that the mapping for gear changes has to be redo and if so how do I do that? I really don't want to get another car just yet...

Everyone thanks for the help, but I just said screw it and bought a 2005 Max SE today, but I still have the 98. I'll try playing with different settings and see what happens. Thanks again.

Yeah it was a spur of the moment thing... It's nice to be able to do things like this on a whim...
