Confusing Gas Milage
Confusing Gas Milage
I dont know if this sounds odd or not but it sure seemed so to me. usually i get poor milage, usually around 16-18 mpg when mostly city and some highway. i do not drive my car hard, rarely i go over 3k rpms. now the other day i drove the car just on highway between tanks and i got 30 mpg. why would there be such a change when other times i have made trips where it was all highway i usually got like 24 mpg. is there somthing thats not functioning right or is this just normal. granted the 30 mpg trip was no city driving and very few stop and goes. so maybe thats why its beter then ever but it just seems like to big of a difference tho. what you guys think?
For some odd reason I actually got better mileage with Esso fuel. I tend to use Shell a lot and the gas mileage is usually pretty stable for Shell, around 16 - 18MPG (mostly 18 in the summer months and 16 in the winter) but I was able to get 22MPG mostly city on some regular Esso.
But in any case don't worry about it.

i bought that gas at a diff gas station then usual, but its still the same company (wawa) i was on vacation to the poconos and i stopped to get gas there. i usually use the wawa gas from the wawa i work at. i have changed most of the things that would fix milage, air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, o2 sensors, cleaned throttle body, changed oil, checked air pressure. only things i havent done yet are knock sensor, coil packs, pcv, and egr. i have tryed different stations (mobil) but saw no change in my milage.
Your problem may be your KS. I just replaced my KS, TPS, and fuel filter, and one of those increaced my gas milage by alot. The most i got before was 340 to a tank 1 time driving granny styled. I am now in process of my first tank after changing these 3 things and am at 300 miles with just over 1/4 gas left, predicting to hit at least 400 this tank for the first time.

More than one stealership has told me that they don't have problems with the PCV valves like years ago and seldom change them. I take it your PCV valve has never been replaced. What mileage does your car have?
I've just turned 60K and my car does not hesitate at all which is a symptom of a PCV valve that requires replacing.
Recently filled up gas and pumped in 16.9 gallons. My low gas light never went on. Is there a better way to find out if my light works?
I have a 95GXE. Not sure if this was an option or standard feature.
Thanks.

I can get ove 30 on my Maxima so perhaps 40 with the Altima 4 cylinder is not out of the realm of possbility, but seems like a stretch to me. The 13 -15 mpg is fubar, however.
