Pics of 26x10.5 ET Streets on 15x8 Welds

Bolted up my buddy's 15x8 Weld ProStars with 26x10.5 ET Streets tonight just to see if they work. The welds required a small spacer to work, they are for a 350Z so the backspacing is not quite right for the maxima. I used a 7.5mm spacer but a 5mm would work. These are what I'll be going to the track on next assuming I get to the track before he needs them back.

If I can get the car working by this friday I'm heading out to Midnight Madness which is all street cars, no trailer cars allowed That all depends on my thread in the 4th gen forum though...

That looks mean. What are you aiming for (60' times at least)?

I'm aiming for not breaking my new trans or my LSD axle of which there are like 2 in the entire nation really. But if it feels good on progressively harder launches then I'll start turning up the wick. I've never seen a 1.7 myself so I'd like to get one of those. I don't know if it'll happen on the ET Streets though, I've heard they aren't very good.

I also want to try some new launch techniques like loading the drivetrain off the line messing with the ebrake and clutch and stuff so as to maybe reduce driveline shock. I don't know if I'll be able to make that work though.

Good luck. 1.7 60 foots plant you in your seat, but their hard on the axles. I doubt you'll break the diff though, that final gear is like a foot across and over an inch thick. I would be more worried about 3rd gear.

I said I was worried about breaking the limited slip axle, not the diff. I do know of someone who blew up a diff in a maxima though but I'm not worried about that.

I think I'll be swapping to stock brakes so I can fit some 15" wheels on the front with some meaty slicks/ET streets. That looks wicked.

E.T. Streets are not sized the same as E.T. slicks. This is how I was getting away with running 26x11.5 streets on a 15x8 wheel. The tires in that picture only have about a 8.5-9" wide contact patch.

From: Auburn WA,
I thought you said you bolted the M/T's on with no problem (not needing a spacer)?

I thought I had. I can actually bolt them flush to the hub without the spacer, but the very inside of the spoke is just kissing the caliper torque member. I can even spin them like that, but it scrapes on the caliper ever so slightly so a small spacer is needed unless I were to grind on the torque member a little bit.

Also, the design of the weld is such that as you tighten the lug down, the spoke flexes inwards, reducing caliper clearance. So initially, when you just put the wheel on there flush with the hub, it appears to clear ever so slightly, however as you tighten it down, that clearance reduces until it starts scraping. I didn't tighten it more than a partial turn before, but once they are tightened down fully, they don't clear unfortunately.

From: Auburn WA,
This is what my concern was in this thread http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=422005 The black wheels angle out more than the M/T's so they still may fit without spacers like you said.

Yep I thought of that thread when I realized that tightening down the lugs would cause the spokes to contact the caliper and felt like a dumbasz.

Realize however that these wheels were not made for use on my car, they are the proper backspacing for a 350z. Different back spacing might enable a different set to clear, or it might not.

This is how we learn and why were here though. Looks good glad spacers worked and I bet you should do good at the track with that set up.

Neil, What is the back spacing on those rims?

If I ordered some new rims what should I order?

I don't know what the backspacing is because they aren't mine I just borrowed them to see if they would clear. I will find out for you, if Brian doesn't know the backspacing I will just measure it myself.

But remember that requires me to use a spacer... so if there is a better backspacing available get that. These are sized for the 350Z remember.
