coolant + timing belt
coolant + timing belt
ok i am just curious, does coolant decreace the life span of a timing belt?
and if so how much?
i have a leak and i think it was something that wasnt installed correctly.

yes.....again, i dont know what the deal is, i had it replaced when the timing belt broke before....
i check for moisture on the other belts hoping its them but i dont see any thing and they are all tight and i am losing coolant pretty quickly (1 res fill per 2 days) i do get drips but when the res isnt full i dont get drips (mabe already too low) and i can check the thermostat housing and from what i can tell it isnt leaking so that only leaves 1 last thing.

pull the timing covers off and look for the leak. if you have antifreeze leaking on the belt, is WILL eat it up and it will fail fairly quickly. not a good idea if you don't want to replace the engine.
the timing belt is just over a year old as is the pump, aparently the pump (if it is indeed the pump) is defective, and it hasnt been leaking long so combined with the new-mess of the belt i dont expect it to fail before i get arround to replacing the pump...if it is indeed the pump (because i dont know 100% untill i pop the timing cover off) if its leaking now it could let out all at once so i am constantly watching...
but i need to fix a few things before and get paid first before i can go into the car like that and put it out for a week
i have also been looking for a new job and i've been mucho busy but if i get a better paying job it'll certianly help
