Stock Catalytic Converter

I need to order a new catalytic converter.. cuz i was dumb enough to put a test pipe on my car when i got a y-pipe and cat-back. Now i need to pass emissions. When i took my car in for the first test, the best i did was double the allowed levels not cool, cuz i want to not have my license plates suspended. So i need to pass this test, and i'm hoping that putting a stock cat on for the test should do the trick.

Firstly, is that the only thing probably causing me to fail so bad.. i'm sure it has a huge impact. My car runs well except for a rough idle due to the IACV. But are there other common things i should check for

Secondly, is there a site where i can find a stock cat for less than like 140 bucks. I hope so, otherwise i'm gonna be a little upset that we cut the old one to crap trying to get it off cuz it was so rusty.

i think to pass emissions with a y-pipe you have to allow the car to warm up first also

what did you do with the original? Your best bet is to go to a local junk yard and find a low rust max and take one. Good luck getting a stock cat for anywhere near $140 anywhere else. I believe a new one lists at $1000

Make a thread in the for sale section, you might get lucky. Or Junkyard...low rust as suggested.

With an OEM cat and no other codes you should pass emission as the cat has materials in it that clean up the air comming out of the exhaust making it less pollutes than if it came out of the headers and straight to the outside air.

also, am i just confused as to what i'm looking at here.. but i've found a couple sites that list a "rear catalytic converter" for 1995 maximas for around 150 bucks. Tell me if i'm wrong

http://www.catalyticonverters.com/ni...converter.html

http://www.alloemcarparts.com/specia...onverters.html

http://www.racepages.com/catalytic/p...xima&year=1995

i'm hoping these would bolt on to my y-pipe and catback.. i don't see why they wouldnt. please tell me these work, and that what i'm looking for doesnt cost 1000 dollars as someone said up top.

hmm... unless the nissan engine is way different, my other car had no cat and barely failed emissions, then I put the cat on and failed again, No2 I think. Everything else was way below the maximum. So you probably need some sort of tune up, or just warming up the engine beforehand

Guys, sorry if this is a retarded question-- but is there a link anywhere that would show ALL the components and their location of the exhaust system? Y-pipe, cat, etc. so I can kind of get a visual of all the pieces? I want to make sure I understand everything that is under there...

you can have mine if you pay for shipping (I gotta yank it out still) and hell, $10 for my trouble :P but I gotta yank it first (which means I gotta weld a bung to my new cat)
