ok well Ive had Tein basics for a few months now...I dont know why, but being the smart guy I am, I always just eyed out my tire pressure, for some reason I forgot that you have to CHECK your air pressure and make sure its correct to the exact psi with a guage....so ever since ive had my teins I thought it was a little harsh...turns out my tire pressure was incorrect and my tires were over inflatted..now that my pressure is correct, the ride is seriously comfy and really rides nice, even over bumps, and im slammed about 2.7 inches..... so my question to the org. is...

DO you know if your air pressure is correct right now? yes or no

Yes. Also check the pressure when the car has sat for a few hours - i.e. cold. I typically check first thing in the morning. Also adjust the pressure as the seasonal temps change.

I daily when getting into the car for work, or any time during the day, glance at my tires to see if they look abnormally flat. If I have the slight bit of concern I have my psi guage in the flip down box under my bose unit.

thats the reason my last set of front tires got bubbles in it, they were over inflated and got damaged hitting potholes.

i should get a tire pressure quick to monitor my new set

Yup - visual inspections all the time. Actually at the factory recommend inflation, my front tires "look" low to me...

I have a tire guage in my glove box too... I make sure to check pressure before any long roadtrips, whenever I rotate tires, etc.

hey man thats totally normal if they look underinflaltted...I JUST read an article from a reputable tire source that said all radial tires when properly inflatted DO LOOK underinflatted but are in fact correct !!

the side of your tires will tell you the Max Psi to put in your tires. I wonder if the stock 33F/32R air pressure applies when the tire size has increased? I'd say your good at 38, if you get too much understear drop the psi to about 35

i dont know what the 17's should have for tire pressure ... I know what the pressure should be for 16's..its 29 in the back and 32 in the front .... maybe ask someone who has a 5th gen what the recommended tire pressure is listed on the 5th gen max

I filled all mine to 36 the other day and now they are down to 33fr and 34 rear. I hate having to go the gas stations to get air. If I don't have two quarters the area to get air is always clear, if I have two quarters there will be someone using it or some stupid *** is just parked there. I wish I had an air compressor.

Yo-ThisMaxIsTight... Do you have adjustable camber bolts or something??
I'm about to have coilovers on my car here real soon... I'm trying to figure out what else I need to get so that my alignment and camber is correct.
Thanks man

I have 42 PSI in my ASX's right now... and my ride isn't comfortable... and I like it that way because it handles really good... I'm young, I can deal with it..

Just experiment with your pressure... Theres no set pressure you're supposed to have with a car... its what the company reccomends for the tires you have...
In a nutshell:
Lower pressure- You get better traction off the line, and more sidewall roll, and a more comfortable ride.
Higher pressure- You get better handling in the twisties, more control over the car, and a harsher ride..

hey bro, some of what you wrote is correct ... but heres the thing, from what I read and from what I know and experienced-its VERY important to keep your pressure at what the car manufacture recommends because, too little or too much air pressure is bad for the tire, tires that are inflated too much will blow out much easier and develop bubbles in the sidewalls, not to mention wear out faster...ALSO, a properly infalted tire will last much longer, tread wise....under inflatted is ok for the track, but I wouldnt do this on the street ... theres a fine line for everything, and the tires fall under this category.... a tire is only as good as the air you put in it ... the main things to worry about with incorrect tire pressure is bubbles in your side walls, blow outs, tread wearing out quickly, also tires with high air pressure will wear out certain struts quickly, cause thats a lot for your shock or strut to absorb

EDIT: I have eibach camber bolts, theyre +/- 1.75 .. i got a 4 wheel computer alignment and my tire wear is perfect ... just go to a big major shop who does LOTS with tires, usually a big shop knows what they are doing...make sure they are familiar with aftermarket suspension systems

Yeah....
But see.. different tires have different ratings... some say max PSI of say... 38... some say max PSI of over 50...
If you inflate one tire at 40.. youre over inflating it...and the other at 40 as well.. you could technically be under inflating it...
I see what youre saying about correct inflation for a tire... thats true... but the car manufacture cannot give a reccomended tire pressure... they can give a reccomended tire pressure on the tire that is on the car brand new.. but theyre just getting that number from the tire manufacture...

I'm about to buy some eibach camber bolts... thanks for the info man!!!!

this pressure has nothing to do with the recommended pressure. I inflated my tires to the max pressure on the side of the tire, and my car was bouncing on the freeway, i swear i felt my rear times come off the ground going on gentle turns on the 10 East from the 405 to La Cienega.

Turns out the max pressure on my tire is something like 42, but the recommended tire pressure for the maxima is 28. I guess it depends on the tire size, but my tires are the same size as stock, with stock steel rims. When i got my tires properly inflated, MAN! what a difference.

Tire Pressure is not determined by the tire, but by the car.

For every size you go up from stock, you should increase your PSI by 2 PSI.

My ’97 GLE has a recommended PSI of 29 Stock.

For 235-40-18 I should be using 34 PSI, 36 PSI at most.

So at what point is it overly dangerous inflation? Some of you have filled them up to the max PSI rating of the tire itself....but let's say you're now doing 80mph on the freeway. This speed will cause the air in the tires to expand due to excessive heat. are the tires now in jeopardy of exploding/blowing out?

Yes. Given the right combination of pressure, weight and heat, the tire may blow out. The pressure recommendation on the sidewall also comes with a maximum weight load.

I have the stock 16 inch hubs and I can't find the air pressure for my wheels anywhere on my car. This question reminded me to ask if anyone knows what the suggested air pressure for them is.

I check my tires regulary, usually if i have some time to kill to work or somethin like that i will pull into a gas station to make sure. And it does make a huge difference.
