Got in 18 runs and...second place bracket racing

lots of test runs, along with bracket racing.

Test and tune was a lot of fun. There were a lot fewer racers than normal, so those of us there got in lots of runs. When I first got there, I think there were only 15-20 cars (a lot of late arrivals) and they kept letting everyone go.

I took second out of about 40-50 cars in the bracket racing (Import Sportsman Class), although I usually don't do that well. I had one guy red light, another "timed out" trying to keep his POS running while staging and I got a bye into the finals. I only had to beat two other cars to reach the finals.

I was pretty consistently in the 14.9 range with the setup I was at. I dialed in at 14.91 and all of my runs were 14.93 to 14.97. My only screw up was in the finals, where I broke out with a 14.85. Reaction times were so-so, with most being .1xx or .2xx (.000 being perfect) and I hit a .405 on the bye run, since I didn't want to embarass myself with a red light, even though I was in the finals, regardless.

This was for points on the season and I was 23rd going into the day, so I might have just broken into the top 10.

Cool. Bracket racing is a lot more fun than most people give it credit for, especially when you're racing V8 guys (harder, more challenging, but all the more rewarding when you win a run). In the street class it's usually a game of who f*cks up a shift, cuts a .350 R/T, or goes under by 5 tenth of a second. Semi-pro is far less forgiving. I try to keep my reaction times between .020 and .060 or so. Any lower and I'm just asking for a redlight.

Ya, good stuff, good to see someone else in the bracket thing. It sure is a lot more challenging than heads-up, much more technical and r/t's are crucial like JClaw says.

I lost yesterday with a .026 r/t to a .136 against a 12 sec car, just couldnt judge quick enough how fast he was coming up on me and didn't back off soon enough. We both broke out but I was more so home I went. You don't get to practice it often enough to get really good at it, usually I am racing from behind which I really like better.

Just stay away from the Devil's Eye (red light) thats the biggest screwup.
