painting rims......

How difficuilt is it to paint a set of rims?
My 19's have alot of nic's on them and i want a darker color rim (gunmetalish)to match my car beter

Can this be done at home and still come out good?

What kind of steps does it involve and what would i have to do to prep them?
Whats the best paint to use?
Do i have to diss-mount the tires?

Any tips or info is welcome..

you can paint them but personally in the long run it may be better off getting them powder coated. Either way it will look good but i believe in doing things right the first time even if it may cost a little more.

some have done it themselves at home with tires mounted and about $20-$40 in paint and prep material and its lasted a good 6 months no flaws.

Check the how to's as suggested the method is in there.

If you dont want to spend alot of money dont send your wheels to the shop. I dont know how much powder coding is or just regular wheel painting but they will want to unmount the wheel, then prep work, painting, it will be a pretty penny.

The range for powdercoating is $60-$100 a rim depending on the shop and size/style of wheel. Well worth in it the long run though.

Paint will never match the durability of either the factory coat or an aftermarket powder coat. If you have nicks etc.. on your current wheels, you will get them even faster with only paint.
