Are those even legal? I remember my dad wanted a muffler shop to put one in his car, but they refused because they said it was illegal. That was in the early 1980s, so I can't imagine emissions regulations have gotten more lax.

no its not, just like most of the stuff we do to our cars, haha.

when i was getting my catback put on, a guy in a Subbie wanted the shop to install a downpipe, catback, and test pipe, and they refused to do the test pipe, saying it was illegal and they could be fined, since they were not allowed to do anything with a cat...

there is a guy near me who does exhaust and such. He would take it out as long as if I got busted I didn't bring up his name or what not. just hush hush. Private installers would maybe do it, but not chains.

Apparently, they are subject to heavy fines if caught messing with anything that makes a car emissions illegal. I had a manager at Meineke throw a fit when he found out that one of his mechanics was helping me with my y-pipe, and this was only an adjustment, since I had already installed it prior to my going there. Additionally, he didn't know that the 5.5th Gen's pre-cats were not in the y-pipe so they technically weren't messing with emissions equipment and refused to believe me either.

a guy in PA that i went to said that he would not install my y-pipe for not only emissions reasons, but for insurance reason as well. he said by removing the heat shields it could catch fire and i could sue him. 3 years later, no problems.

Maybe if he included a picture of his "hot" mom, it would sell

Just kidding.

Why would he do it while his mom was home?

Cuz he's a massive tool. The kind who would somehow think that his mom wouldn't notice a mod that made her car louder and made the exhaust smell.

Yeah, but the test pipe? I dunno... correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd think she'd at least notice something with that.
