Key chain remote.

OK, so I am hoping that I am not the only person who has had this issue. BOTH of my key chain remotes to my 96 I30 have broken where the key connects to it. You know, at the top of the remote there is that half circle made of PLASTIC! Well both have broken and now it's a ***** to carry around.

Can someone tell me if I can purchase another one off ebay and how easy it is to reprogram for my particular car please? Also, do I have to purchase one from a 95 to 99 maxima or I30 OR can I purchase one of the newer remotes from the 2000 and up I30's and have it still work on my 96?

Thanks for the help everyone.

I'm sure you can purchase one off ebay. You may have to go to the dealer to get it programmed or maybe you can google for programming instructions.

I purchased one from Ebay a while back and it was pretty easy to program. The one I had came with instructions. Actually I think there are some instructions in your owners manual too.

Nope will not work, every year is different. You can use a maxima remote from the same year or you can match the FCC ID on the back of your remote.

Damn! I was hoping the newer ones would work.

Why the hell is it that we spend all this money on a nice luxury car and then they give us a key fob with a PLASTIC piece that is supposed to take all the abuse and beating!!!!!! Did that actually make sense to the designer of this thing??? MAKE IT METAL IDIOTS!!!!!

Sorry, had to vent for a sec. I can't stand things that SUCK!

I just got a new one today. The dealer wanted 200 bucks but I got a Maxima one off ebay for 16 dollars. I programed it myself.

1. You get in the car and lock the doors with the working remote...

2. Put your key in the ignition and remove it... (repeat 6 times) your lights will flash...

3. turn the key to ACC...

4. Push the unlock button on the remote you want to program...

5. Lock the doors with the door switch...

repeat steps 4 and 5 with each remote you need to program.

When done turn off the key get out of the car and try your remotes.

Laterz

When I got my '97 i30 it didnt come with a remote because it was a repo.

Are all i30's factory-equipped with keyless entry?
I would like to get a remote too.

-thanks

No, i did the same and had to sell them on ebay.
I glued my remote with that crazy glue thing and I hold on for a few months.

Yeah, I have tried all sorts of glue that says it will hold forever and of course it breaks the next day! UGH! NISSAN/INFINITI BAD BAD BAD!!!!! SHAME ON YOU FOR MAKING SUCH A CHEAP FREEKIN KEY FOB!

Idiot!

My wife who is pretty crafty, said she thinks she has something that actually melts plastic together and so we are going to try that and see how it works out. I will let you know so you all can try it as well IF IT WORKS!
