That sucks. Depending on options, you can get a base SE for $25k. Are you trading yours in? How much total down? I'm paying $385/mo w/ $9k trade, but I have DPP and other little stuff (~$28.5k).

I think you are making a very good move here , for a start you get to hang with "us all" which in itself is priceless..

I would buy any model as long as it's not the same model specification, the Rental companies buy, beacuse a quick study of the Second hand dealers guides indicate, that when they change over the fleets, the second hand residual values plummet on that model ... well that's our experience over here anyhow... IMO...

Danger300z, your payment will depend on a few things. As a start, you’ll need to negotiate the best price on your 2006 Maxima. Go to Edmunds.com for dealer cost. Depending on how you want your Maxima equipped, the sticker price could range between $28,330 and $34,500+.

Let’s assume you like one that lists for $29,000. Dealer cost will be about $26,600. To the best of my knowledge there are no rebates right now. (If you find any 2005s left on a lot, you may get lucky.) If you negotiate a $200 over-cost-deal, you will buy the car for $26,800.

From this price, you will subtract the value of your trade in. According to Kelly Blue Book, (kbb.com), a 2002 Maxima SE, automatic with 45,000 miles should trade in for around $10,850. (That could be high. Dealers often use lower numbers.) Based on these figures, the net difference is $15,950. ($26,800- $10,850)

Now you add your state sales tax. In my state, it is 6%. Six percent of $15,950 is $957. You must also add your dealer’s Documentary or Administration fee of about $60. At this point, we have $15,950 plus $957 plus $60 for a cost of $16,967.

The next step is to add your loan balance to this cost. If you bought your car 9 months ago, with a 4 year loan, and a $300 per month payment, your payoff is probably around $11,700.

STOP. Let’s take a breath here for a second. If my numbers are right, you may owe more on your car than it is worth. This is not good. (I hope I am wrong, but if I’m right it is better to find out now.) If my numbers are right, you will need to take money out of your pocket to make up the difference between your trade-in value and your loan amount.

This just got complicated! For the purpose of completing this calculation, let’s assume you pay the difference, which is about $850. In this example, the $11,700 must be added to the $16,967, making your cost $28,667. Lastly, you must still pay your registration fees. Let’s say that is $100. This makes your total cost $28,767.

Unless you intend to put additional money down on the car, this will be the amount you must finance. To the best of my knowledge, new car rates for a person with great credit are around 6.2% for a 5 year loan. The payments on a $28,767 loan for 5 years at 6.2% will be about $560 per month.

I realize this payment is based on very crude assumptions, and I may be wrong. My intent is to help you. (I know my thought process is sound.) If you want a sixth gen Max, please go to a dealer and see what happens. Just keep in mind that the numbers may be close to this example. Good luck.

I like my factory HID's, another good note from CNN.

Headlights attract thieves

The Maxima's fancy high intensity headlights similarly attract the attention of thieves, according to the study.

"Investigators tell us the headlights are often stolen because they fit into earlier Maximas that were sold without such equipment," said Hazelbaker.

The 2002 and 2003 Maximas, which had the high-intensity lights, had 15.8 theft claims and 20.4 theft claims per 1,000 vehicles, while the 2001 models, which did not have those lights, had an industry-average 2.5 theft claims per 1,000.

Hazelbaker said a redesign of the 2004 Maxima may limit theft because the new lights no longer fit into the earlier models.

I went from my 5.5 gen to a 6th and for the most part I think it was a good choice. I think that the 5.5 was a much more sporty car and was a bit more fun to drive. But the 6th gen is bigger and is more luxurious than my older Max. Plus in my case I have another car to drive if I want something a bit more fun. Anyhow I lease my Max through Nissan for right around $300 a month with $1000 down. That includes tax. Now before we get into a debate about buy vs. lease its important to note that this car at that payment is what worked for me. It might not work for you. Money aside if its just a choice between the two cars I still am not sure I could make up my mind on one or the other.

i got my SE with ddp and sunroof which includes the HID's, by the way the theft on the 6th gen HID's have been VERY low compared to the 5.5gen, so get HID's. I payed 28,500 after 1200 rebate on my 05 and i think there is no rebate on the 06 but 05 are running 1500 rebate. my sticker was around 32750 so if you negotiate at least for invoice you should be ok. i put 5k down plus 5k trade in and over 66months on a 19,000 loan amount im paying 327.00 a month. But keep in mine insurance cost which will be a b itch. Good luck

You shouldn't worry much at all about HID theft on 6th gen...they're vertical slits how can they fit easily into any other gen Maxima?

Good Luck, with your trade-in...IMO get the driver's preffered package(my uncle has it)...you won't be sorry

yea man.. I traded from a 02 maxima and have never looked back since... these cars are bigger of course and they completely just have so much more options if you get them..

I loved my 02 to death, but this 04 maxima won me over inside and out..

I think if you drive outo cars and are having thoughs of owning a 6th gen in outo, you will love the way the manualmatic brings the power out of the engine.. not like the 02 where you can't downshift at 80 mph, well with the 6th gen you can.. bring those rpms to redline and take off from 80 to 100 in seconds.. electric mirrors, the bose if off the hook, built in 6 disc cd player and so on, and it looks big and sexy with a hint of sportyness..

you will go from a sporty looking car to a luxury style vehicle with sporty add ons...

I don't know about you, but i rather roll up in a big boy MAX than a sporty sedan any day, look like a big boss with the speeds of a sporty car, can't beat it...

I payed 29500 for my max se fully loaded w/o navi, 561 monthly.. I went up from paying around 300/400 also i think, but well worth it..

TEK..

I say get it, I had a 5thgen 2k Max (I loved it)and sold it to buy a 2k5 and I love this car now.Fit and finish(stuctural integrity and sound deadening) seems to get better by every year,This is a manufacter goal for every succeding generation and this is across the board with every brand. We are modders and you can only mod so much before you get sick of it and I modded the hell out of my 2k Max. But we still love modding-can't drive stock.Since you're down with the .ORG you're probably the same. If you can afford it-get it-you won't regret it.We only live once-you might as well enjoy it.After that you probably won't look back.

I'm paying 614$ a month, w/ 500$ down, no trade in, over 60 months. Thinking about selling a few stocks to get the payments down a bit. I could have traded my modded 4th gen, but nah, I would never have got the close to 40k that I've put into it, lol.

So for right now, I'm going to bang out with the 614$ a month payments starting in December. Bought the car on the 27th of October. Love the car, to me it's worth it.

PLUS! It made my insurance go down 217$ a year! :w00t:

This is such a damn obsession. Modding 2 max's is quite expensive and takes up practically all my free time researching on what's the best things to get for my Max's.

Thinking about moving to a 6th generation too, looking at the website, the leather seats come in a few colors, but for some reason all of them seem to be smooth with perferation s in the seat and back except the latte leather. Anyone know why the latte leather is made differently then all the other leather seat covers.

It might depend on your location, but in my area there is currently a $1750 facory rebate on 05 and a $1000 factory rebate on 06 Maximas. We just bought an 05 SE with DPP, chrome wheels, and floor mats for $28249 after rebate + T&L. Looks similar to this:

I went from the 4th gen to the 6th. I still have my 4th and love my 6th it was a no brainer for me. I really didn't like the 5th gen until they put the hid's in them. That little change made it look a lot better but then I heard about all the thefts of the headlights. I bought my 04 with the hid's sl with the dpp. The heated steering wheel and other things. I don't think you will be upset with the choice. Just put a good alrm on it. I haven't heard of a lot of thefts of the headights yet but an alarm may help. My insurance company gave me a lot of discounts for all those airbags and safety feature. The alarm is a lot cheaper than dealing with higher insurance rates because of a theft or damage from an attempted theft.

yeah im not sure if i should upgrade as well, with the new 265 hp does this maxima require pemium, or can it run on 87 without pinging?

I have been using pemium since I brought the car 2 years ago and no engine problems.

Read the manual.

The manual says it will take 87, but if you read in the Gas Cap area, it says to use above 91 octane for performance... I have been using 87 and i dont have pinging probs at all...but when i put 89+ octane here is a significant difference... I really need to use 89+, but with gas prices the way they are..oh well.. LAter..

If he is still debating on whether or not to purchase the car, I would assume that he doesn't yet have the manual for it, either.

exactly what difference do you notice, engine noise.. this vq head with 265 hp doesnt have the high compression that the 350 z or g35 has so im sure 87 octane would run fine.
