My first Auto-X experience, holy body roll!!

I love my max that much more now, even mostly stock it handled pretty well, except for eatin up the sidewalls on my front tires. guess its time to start savin up for some slicks.

here a pic to show the huge difference in the angle between the front and rear tires:

more pics of mine and some of the other cars can be found here

my vids can be downloaded from here

i did pretty well, 6th place out of 34 cars in my class, my times were 63, 60.9, 58.636 & 58.730+ 2 cones

Nice pix and times, congrats on the 6th place. Just one question: how do you know/register about/for this auto-x? Thanks

my friend who told me about it is a member of the SCCA solo team in my region. I'm sure you can google "SCCA (your region or state)" and be able to come up with something.

everyone should auto-X its the best way to experience the limits of your car legally and safely, and this turned me on to the possiblity of competion next year... we'll see.

oh and another thing, which do you think would help improve cornering and auto-X times, a new suspension setup or a set of racing slicks. I hate to admit it but got beat by stock 05 caviler, but he had some sick auto-X tires and steel rims.

I'm tryin to think which would cost less and be more effective.

Here's what i did to my beautiful ContiContacts:

both front tires got the sidewall eatin up from corning.

Looks good, besides the tires, if you keep driving in those things you will become a much better driver, kind of trial by fire.

If you drive one of the RWD's, you'll be amazed. 1 1/2 weeks ago I drove some 2k6 E90 330's that had sport package and active steering, what a joke. I know there are a lot of bimmer haters on the org, so suffice it to say the Lexus IS rocks in a similar situation, A4 Quattro not as good but better than a Maxima, and the G35 sport suspension was poor, lots of roll and squealing with Eagle NCT's.

I can't tell from your pic where you are, but on the course we did the professional drivers taught us how to pick where we're headed on the outside of the curve and then to clip the apex and at what speed.

Tires will make the biggest improvement in your times. However few notes... 1 seat time is the best investment and makes the largest improvement overall. 2 if you are killing the outside edges on street tires.... think what would happen to a tire with a much softer compound (same wear pattern cords just show sooner) 3 learn to drive on street tires... slicks and "R" compounds help to hide your mistakes. The biggest tip I can give you is ..... buy the rule book and read it before you start making changes. Trust me you don't want to make a mod like a UDP and find yourself in a new class.

Who says you cant autocross on 18's??? .....
It's almost better if you have really good tread on them... less sidewall to roll over on you

I normally run my 16s for Auto-x but my tires were shot so i had to use my 17s(i know u were refering to the other guy not me)....but R-comps will improve ur time but like what was said get a season or 2 of seat time....eith some really good street tires....i recommend Falken Azenis...prolly the best "street" tire for autocross.....and yes becareful what u mod.....a CAI oculd put u in a hard class...i woudl suggest stay Novice for a full season

Here in East TN there are a lot of autocross events held. On a local board lots of Mustang owners, WRX, etc etc do it. I'm planning on getting into it next year after some work done to the car some more.

But they always comment on if you are anywhere near serious about AutoX you should look into some Kumho V700 or V710.

Good job BTW, 6th out of 34 cars is awesome!! Way to rep the Max.

That looks like fun...good for you for trying it out and you placed pretty well too! There aren't any tracks around here to do that on...my closest experience would be swerving a Ford Focus through pylons to simulate emergency lane changes when I was in driving school.

its not really a track...i call it a track....around here we just use empty wide open parking lots...and one go-kart track......is there a such thing as Sports Car Club of Canada...they would be the ones u wanna find.

I'll have to find out whenever I move but right now I live 8 hours from the closest Canadian city that's a decent size. There might be a club like that in MN though...I'll have to check!

I didnt know people accually tried to autocross with maximas. Seemed a little bit too large for that kind of racing, or any racing for that matter.

I'm on 17's (2004 altima V6 rims) and stock suspension.

The max handles and moves pretty well for its size. Yes it was one of the larger cars there, but its all about the driver right
