Sounds stupid, but my rattle has developed into a more of screeching? not good, like metal on metal. only happens at 2k rpm, after 15 mins of running.

I just changed my oil and i now have started noticing this. Oil is ok level.

Yeah I have that rattle it is always just right around 2k or sometimes to 3. It is a fast rattly clicking, Sounds about how I would expect a chain rubbing on a housing would sound like. Really annoying. Does the dealer need to tighten up the tension rod or what?

dealer supposedly opens up the timing cover and goes in for soem complicated part replacement. i have heard it can sometimes do more damage than good.

ANyone else think this low squeal sound is normal? it isnt that loud.

if its making a noise that it didnt when you bought it, likely something is wrong. especially if it sounds wrong. dont know if its under warranty, but it wouldnt hurt to ask someone who can actually hear the noise, or upload a sound file.

i have this too and it really bothers me. at first i thought it was maybe some tranny woes but after changing all my fluids, it's still there. i'm thinking VTC sprocket is a possiblity since i get that cold-start rattle too?

Its funny,

I just got a new motor put in from excessive oil burning on my prevous motor. LOW AND BEHOLD the same noise exists in the new motor, rattling at 1800-2400RPMS or so.

I am beginning to think its not related to timing chain but most likely the precat self destructed. But the dealer says that the precats were okay. I dont understand how the same rattling could ocur with a BRAND NEW motor (i can see the new engine and the new parts).

I would be very interested to hear it. I have an appointment next week to go in and have them look at it. One Stealership told me that the fix they use for that issue is to replace the plastic "guides" in the housing. I asked him about the possibility of a tensioner not holding the chain enough and he said " there is no tensioner." I plan on going to another dealer to have the rattle checked out and some 60K services performed. We shall see. This place is pretty small but I don't get too much shizzle from the service mgr for my mods.

Hopefully something comes out of your appointment there. I sure would like to know this solution also, good luck.

Your problem sounds like the "knocking and pinging" issues on the 3.5. Hey puppetmaster.... (you should be called the "retriever of old threads master")pull up some of the many old threads on this issue and let them read up on it. There is also a "timing chain rattle at start up" issue on the 3.5 too, but that only happens at start up. I'd try to figure exactly what problem you have and then go to the stealer and see if they can fix it.
