Valet key didnot save my car switching gas did.

Hey guys I am sorry about my thread about the valet key saving my car. The morning of the incident I was going to get gas after I wiped my car down. I was switching back to bp premium. I know I didn't have to let it get to empty to switch gas. It turns out that the car ran out of gas when he was driving it. I guess he didn't look to see the gas was low in the car. I guess he got nervous and bailed. I am sorry about that and this does not work to disable the car. Please don't give up a valet key and think you have saved your car. The dealer called me and said I was simply out of gas . When I got to the car I never even thought about gas I was just happy that my car was not destroyed. I asked the service department and they said it is a nasty rumor that some of the salesmen were telling people. This was just a case of a thief and bad timing for him good timing for me. The car would not start when I got to it. The salesmen who sold me my car got an earfull from me. I guess that is what the owners manual is for. I think that would be an important thing to include seeing that you could cause a terrible accident. I am getting a low jack or remote stsrt system with anti- carjack mode this weekend. Sorry once again but pleeeeeeease dont think a valet key will help in this situtation. It would be irresponsible for me to leave a nasty rumor like that and have one of you guys loose your car with this crap. The best thing to do is get low jack or some cystem with anti-carjack mode or drive with very little gas all the time.

Also I am sorry it took me so long to report this back. Peace out.

thanks for finding out the truth. man talk about fortunate... gas saved your car! I tracked the rumor where I said "Don't hide your spare or valet b/c theives could move it." I got the notion from my salesman as well. I closed and editted your previous thread to kill the rumor. I apologize for passing incorrect info.

Well good info none the less. Let me go get my valet key out of the car, lol. Thanks for being big enough to come back and retract your earlier statement. Maybe they should start working on a key like that.

Here is your solution

I'm eventually going to get this installed for my car. I currently have an alarm and lo jack.
$600 Installed and no fee for the first year. Lifetime warranty included.

Approx. $120/year after the first year. (plans change depending on the number of uses per month)

Hey nismo it's no problem atleast we are all better informed. I was just lucky and quick thinking is not the saving grace. We all need to complain to nissan about what these salesmen making these false statements. We also need to get the word out to our fellow orger's before they use that method to stop a thief.

Would that come with a remote starter? Price sounds good who is installing them for 600.00? My stealership wants 1 grand. Are you going with lojack directly? Let me know.

We need a Nissan engineer on this forum!

I think this is a symptom of a larger problem. See the other
conrtoversy regarding the FTSB--do you have to lift the
car off the ground when we put it on? Or the halogen-->HID
conversion question (are the optics the same for the 2 kinds of light
sources?) Various people came up with various answers, and
it is impossible to tell who is right unless you are an automotive
engineer.

How can we get a Nissan engineer to answer questions
on this forum?

Don (Pearl96Max) will install it for me in the future. I'll be using both the lojack and Viper GPS device.

Glad you got your car back and don't feel bad about giving bad info, you were only trying to look out for your fellow Max pals.
OT: Now that you have your car back don't ruin it with BP gas. I experienced the engine damage that gas can cause in my car 10 years ago, Chevy Camaro, no comments please. Had to have all injectors replaced and the MAF sensor and a couple other sensors. Everytime I go in for any type of engine service, the first thing thay ask me is if I use BP gas. I've been asked this is from Nissan, Jeep, Chrysler, Honda/Acura dealers as well as several local garages. I primarily use Marathon and Shell and sometimes Sunoco. I wouldn't even use BP gas in my lawn mower. Just my 2 cents. My Max deserves the best and thats what I give her.

^^ I've been getting great performance from BP Ultimate. IF it was the cause of your problems, don't you think it may have improved in the past 10 years? I remember Shell once had a reputation for horrible gas. BP makes some pretty large claims of how well they perform/clean now.

You know what, if my car gets stolen, I dont want it back because it will
certainly have been very abused by the time it is recovered.
I'd much rather have my insurance company compensate me.

We should always use "Top Tier Detergent" gas.

TOP TIER Gasoline Retailers:

QuikTrip
Chevron
Conoco
Phillips
76
Shell
Entec Stations
MFA Oil Company
Kwik Trip/Kwik Star
The Somerset Refinery, Inc.

if you read BP's site, they surpass the top tier requirements and are loking into registering with it.

this is all discussed in the fluids forum

I was using shell for a while. It may have been my imagination but I didn't feel the same performance that I felt with bp. When I switch gas I give it 5-10 tanks to see if there is a difference. I know it takes time for new gas to do its thing.

That could e true but he didn't get very far the car seems to be fine. I would not want it back if they took it for more than a few hours. Plus the insurance is already too high down here with al the crime. A stolen car is just another reason for higher rates.
