Tockio Illuminas w/Tein S-Techs

Hey everyone. Well I just bought a 5th generation maxima yesterday, and I'm planning out what I need to do. First thing on my list is to drop it so my wheels wont look silly on it. I bet this question has been asked a billion times, but I just wanted to know how the Tokico Illuminas (5-way adjustable) paired with the Tein S-Tech Springs are? How is the ride? etc...Pics of them on your car are welcome.

Thanks - Ray

Hi. Congrats on your purchase. I drive a super black as well

As to the strut/spring question, I'm sure if you searched you could find the information floating around here. I know there's at least ONE huge thread pertaining to aftermarket suspension setups that's a few pages long.

I have the Illuminas w/ H&Rs and I love them, though. I hear S-Tech is super stiff, however, and also drops the lowest (I think.)

Listen, I never had any s-tech springs on my car but I have ridden in about 8 maxima with them, also with a whole assortment of struts and shocks. From my interpretation, they ride hard, especially over bump and forget pot-holes. And the thing about the Illuminas, there not made to handle a spring rate as high as the Tein s-techs. In fact it's only warranty for a drop of 1.3-1.5!!!!!!

Other people on the org. have also blown Illuminas for trying to go lower!!!! If I was you I would get a spring that maybe rides better, like Tein H-techs or progress springs with kyb’s struts. Why kyb struts??? It simply takes the bigger bumps better (better rebound). And this is coming from a person, who had- Tokico Blues, Koni struts, Illuminas, cut factory springs, H&R springs, and finally Tein H-techs all on the same car. And I had my car since 9/13/1999…

There you have it…

I've been on S-tech's and Illumina's for awhile now. Like others said, the ride is pretty harsh, but the look is well worth it to me. Never had a problem with blown struts, but if you want to go low, coilovers would be your best bet.

i agree here. i dont think the ride is too bad, but that combo, with 19s, and you need to be careful. its not TOO low tho, which is good, even with a lip. i have mine set to 3 all around, but i may go one notch firmer in the rear. right now tho, i cant put anyone except girls in my back seat, if i need to put a guy or 2 back there, we will be hitting the bumpstops hard. its up to you tho, i dont mind the ride at all, and the look makes up for it, combined with the drastic improvement in handling, but at times when you miss avoiding a lip in the road or wahtever, you definitley may end up wishing you had htechs, haha.
