Interesting part change from cali-fed

Some of you may or may not know this....I didnt know till I took it off

But, the lower intake plenum on a cali-spec has butterfly fins/valves (whatever) - controlled by the big apple size vacuum canister type thing right in front of the TB.

Well, we had a spare, but it was a FED-spec plenum. We switched it out, along w/ a new gasket.....and everything works better. It had a VERY hesitant cold idel before-hand....and now it's fixed.

We put a small bolt in the hose that fed to the pressure canister thing. No codes....yet?

Anyone else done this?

you should have dynoed the car before and after to dispell the myth of the butterfiles. some think they cause a restiction and rob power.

any noticable difference in driving, or is it too early to tell.

i have only seen the butterflies open and close when the engine is cold. When the engine is hot, they stay open all the time.

i doubt it..

if anything the front pre cat would cause some power loss..

the front precat really doesnt do much power wise. the area under the curve is similar with no peak gains, acctually a loss in the peak tq. gains are minimal from 4k-6krpm. not worth the time.

look at the low end loss! especially the tq. may as well keep the precat. hell the stock y pipe made more low end torque.

the butt dyno on my end tells a different story.. but i did replace my knock sensor, did the fed spec manifold, and replaced my stillen y pipe which had a collapsed flex section with my cattman..
